    Electrical Question (sadistic laugh)

So a certain early 3 wheeler had two engine options. One has points--the other a cdi. These two engines have two different coils. Both coils ground to the frame and have positive and negative terminals with the hot lead attaching to the + and the - attaching to the cdi (I may be wrong) on one and attaching to a capacitor and the contact breaker/points on the other model.

Question: Would these coils be interchangeable, or is it more complicated than that?

I have the trike with points and the ignition coil for the cdi unit and I'd rather just use it if I can. Man, I would really appreciate help here.

I think that even though they may have a different ohm rating - it will still work - mounting might be a little different too - but it should make the trike run ok.

    Thanks for the replies.

I'm going from Kawasaki KLT200 A1 to Kawasaki KLT200 A1. Yep, same model, different electrical systems.

I was just talking to a mechanic that said the only thing that mattered is that they are the same voltage. If they're both run off the battery and they both run 12 volts--it's fine. Otherwise, it may blow up.

I can check the voltage of the points model. Does anyone have a KLT200 with the cdi that could tell where the hot lead is coming from? Battery/Mag?
