    Running issues Got new carb

we,,, it seems no matter what i do with anything, i CANNOT get the midrange rpm's right. it always bogs/sputters. the top end is insane, and it idles fine all day long. i think part of the problem is the needle. the needle does NOT anchor in the slide, so it can move independently of what the slide does.
i have actually had the needle pop out if the slide and act as a throttle limiter, wedging itself between the slide and the top of the carb, not letting me past like 1/8 throttle.........requiring me to tear it to pieces to put hte needle back into the slide.
so, im think im going to get a Kehin carb as soon as i get the money.
also, sometimes after riding awhile, it will just shut off, like it flooded out.

also, when just setting there, gas will randomly leak out of the overflow tubes, then stop again, when it is NOT running, setting on flat level ground.

now, the plug is black, but it still seems to run hot. it runs around 330 degrees plus.........which in all my motor experience is WAY TOO HOT i think?

and it all of a sudden started "kicking back"
almost EVERY TIME i kick it, the kicker ROCKETS back the other way(or tries to)
it REALLY HURTS. before today (riding about 4 hours) it RARELY did this....now it does it almost EVERY KICK.

    so, my questions are:
    1. what should be a good operating temp range for this motor?
    2. Why would the kicker start kicking back all-a sudden?
    3. How to set timing on the thing? perfect is not needed, but something close, after it gets real hot, it seems to make a knock occasionally, but only one knock.
    4. What should i check for this bogging/sputering? tried every needle clip, nothing really seems to make it better. top end seems OK.

still have no idea what is causing it to kick back. could it be the timing i wonder?

Do you have the spring in the slide that holds the clip and the needle down? How the heck is your needle popping out?

though i have no idea what type bike we're talking about, it sounds like a 4 stroke honda (if i sound like a A-hole i wasn't trying to). Try checking out the compression release, make sure it moves during the first part of moving the kicker.

Sounds like the little tab in your throttle slide is missing. There's a washer type deal that keeps your needle in place, and if your needle pops out on it's own, I'm GUESSING that you might have a slight problem.

    oshat my bad......
i am Nightbiker07, my account is being broken, so i had to create a new one temporarily......

its a 84 250r with a 300 kit, power reeds, wiseco piston, DG exhaust.......

the main jet seems about right, the top end is great. it will only get to the top end if you the throttle...midrange is nonexistent.

and 300some degrees seems way too hot for a running temp. i am thinking its lean or something in the midrange, even though the plugs get black. i am usualy running it in the midrange (riden 4 strokes my whole life, not used to the pegged motor idea yet.

and yes, it does seem something is missing to hold the needle in place. i am just going to get a kehin, most of the people i talk to are more knowledgable with them anyways.

so about the timing? i want to set it somewhere near a factory setting. i know it might not make a power diference, but idk. i want to eliminate possibilities here.

    compression is a ?.

i took the motor to PR racing to get the topend worked on, the piston did not come anywhere near the top of the cylinder. they machined the jug and assembled it, so i ASSUME it is where it should be. i can check it this weekend.

but it didnt do this kickback always....it started doing it after about 5 hours of riding.

could the timing be causing the kickback? its going to break my foot if it keeps it up. i just dont get why it would suddenly start doing it.

when i rebuilt a 350x a couple years ago the timeing was off and it has a bad kickback but it may be different on 2 strokes

how would i go about checking /adjusting the timing on this thing?
i know the concept, but i dont see how you can adjust it, unless you guess and check. is that the only way, or is there a simpler solution?

you are really confusing me about the timing. How could you adjust the timing on a 2 stroke? advance the cdi? Are you going to move the intake or exhaust ports?
