    NEW TO BOARD -- Project 1986 Tri Z 250 - YTZ 250S

Hello everyone I just want to introduce myself!

My name is Darius. I am 30 years old and grew up in the 1980's riding first an ATC 70, then a ATC 185s, then an ATC 200s. I later moved on to motocross. I purchased an immaculate 1990 LT500R Quadzilla. My heart and childhood memories have always been with 3 wheelers. I still have tons on Dirt Wheels from the 80's and even have the rare ATV newspaper called ATV News.

I recently purchased a 1986 Tri Z 250S. I bought it because the '86 models seems the rarest and had some good improvements over the first model.

When I bought the trike it was all in boxes! I have not ridden it or even started the motor. I just had to trust the owner. I started rebuilding it from the ground up. Here are some pics. I wll post more as the project gets closer to completion.

My goal is to make the trike look as close to showroom stock as possible but with a few modifications for function and look (chrome here and there and an aftermarket exhaust).

I had to repaint the stock shock spring...the swing arm..and the frame. The frame has 5 coats of clear coat on it.

    Getting the motor in...

The motor was repainted with a satin black paint. I thought about removing the paint and painting the cases silver...but I decided I might as well keep it stock looking then add some chrome later...

Wow thats a very clean looking Z project. What kind of paint did you end up using on the motor? I need to do the same thing with my 500X project but I need something that will last a while and be heat resistent.

I need to look at the can I don't have it here with me. Typically most of the satin paints you find at Pep Boys will do a pretty good job. I won't be riding the Tri Z much...probably just sit and admire it, then take it to the dunes 2 x times per year.

I would use a Satin Black and not a Glossy. Strive for about 5 coats but let each dry completely before going to the next. The frame was professionally done.

[20:55] <waterpumper> putting a racing pipe on a Foreman is like putting a high dollar bikini on a 400 pound chick...just because it fits doesn't mean it looks cool
