Who on here has parted out a healthy trike ?

I'm just simply curious if it is at all worth it ?

Till you take it apart, clean the parts, list all the items, answer all the questions, figure out shipping, box it up for shipping.........I would sure hope you made at least 3-500 more then if you sold it as a complete machine.

I imagine it depends on the machine too but just want to know from those that did it, if they would do it over again?

    Thanks!

I have done it to a number of machines after I couldn't sell them whole. One machine I made over $1000 more than I wanted for it complete. I hated to do it, but I needed to sell it one way or another.

i parted out my healthy 200x. the only problem was the carb. i mainly did it to raise money for my 250R. didnt really work out as good as i thought. that will prolly be my last part out. funny thing is i basically paid 400 for a frame cause the motor was on its last leg. then i paid more money for a new motor then i just got fed up. so i spent about 800 total and walked away with 300.

I've got one out in the garage I've thinking about doing this to several times!

I guess it all boils down to what kinda trike (i.e 110 parts or 250R) you'll probably make more from the R is what I mean.

Seems ebay is kinda slow these days too...

I probably could of made more parting out my SX then selling it outright... but didn't want to have to deal with all the work involved.

I think that would be the biggest part of it. Its alot of work stripping, cleaning, getting quotes and shipping out parts. Unless of course you do it for a living or on a regular basis.

Ive been told here that I'd probably do alot better parting my 87 200Xs on ebay. Unfortunately Im one of those fools that goes out of my way to find these poor broken down trikes and resurrect them. I posted the pics of the 70 I got a month ago. like a idiot I paid a 100 bucks for what you saw. spent close to another 200 on parts, it runs but still needs a seat. plastic isnt the greatest. Would I ever get 300 for it as it sits? No. But I bought it because I wanted another 70. Funny thing, Ive got more into the 70 than I have in both of the Xs and even the 200S. Jim

the only machine i parted was a old sx i picked up to save from the crusher. i mostly traded the parts off it for parts i needed for my auto x project. some of the members on here hooked me up good for the sx parts. i got to meet tapper190 in person when he came from canada for the remains of the sx. the rest of the parts were scattered from ca to fl rite up to il. im just glad i was able to help revive some of these guys machines with the parts off my junk yard bound machine.

but to clearly answer your question. no i never parted out a nice machine. but yea i think its worth it if you tear it down little by little on free time then sell parts when its all ore down. that way you dont have to hurry and take parts off as people want them.

    just my 2 cents.
down to parts because i no longer have a place to ride trikes.

    GIT IT RAAAGGGGG !!!!

I've parted a couple of nearly complete trikes and a couple of '86 T3 rollers. The T3 rollers did extremely well parting out. They both had some good stuff on them even though at first glance they looked pretty worthless.

Parted what was left of my dual 350x build. Had one that looked good but needed mechanical work. Bought another one that was ugly but solid mechanically. Combined them and sold the leftovers. I had $1500 invested in the two machines and I ended up with basically a free 350x since that's right around how much the parts sold for. I still have a few things to take care of on it but I figure by the time it's 100% finished I'll probably only be into it for $300 at the very most.

Parted out a 1985 R recently. It needed a lot of work but still did decent on it. I paid $450 for it and I think right now I'm at around $900 and that's taking into consideration that I gave someone a pretty killer deal on some of the typically good selling parts. Still have a few items left too.

I will say this though. Ebay, at least for me, has been dead lately. I had quite a few parts either not sell or sell for the minimum bids. Even when I was selling the 350x parts quite a few items sold for just 99 cents. A year and half ago I would have probably made double what I did on all this stuff.

I have made over $2500 on my 200X.
It takes allot of patience and time.
I have built a pretty positive feedback for my self and I use it when ever I sell things. This is what sells parts.
I have sold all kinds of stuff.

A lot of good info here guys, thank you.

I was thinking about doing it to my SX but just hate to part a totally good running trike and since a few said ebay is slow ( maybe the holidays? ) might not be a good idea anyway ?

It wasn't a trike but a Banshee in excellent condition.

I was owed about 400$ and it was given to me as payment. I don't want a quad and especially a real fast one. So I parted it and I'm around 3000$ as we speak.

Huffa - Sales are down everywhere. I've been picking up some bargains lately, I don't think people have the money to bid.... This time of year EBAY is terrible and usually doesn't pick up until about February.

A nice SX complete gets decent money on EBAY, I'm still not qa fan of parting an SX as there are allot of items that no one wants or needs like tripples, swinger, battery box, footpegs etc etc. Most engines rarley fetch more than 300$ as it's 100$ to ship it and most of them run forever.

I seriously think it's just luck of the draw. It was summertime when I was parting the 350x and even then some of the parts I was expecting to sell well did not. A few parts I thought would go cheap went for more than expected so it kind of equaled out in the end on that one. You also have to keep in mind these were not mint trikes I was parting out so the parts were in very typical condition. I normally don't clean them up or spray paint them or anything to make them look better. I just post a pic as they are and let it ride.

I have made exceptions though. I had the T3 Durablue swinger powdercoated. The R motor I took the time to sand down and give it a good paint job. Those items alone went for $700 and $499 respectively. It does pay to make the parts presentable.

Another factor is the model. 250R, 350x, Banshee, 2nd gen T3, those will usually part out really well. A 250sx won't bring near as much money unless the parts look mint. If the machine is together, runs well and looks good, I'd say you'd do just as well to sell it complete.

Well I figure it's xmas time and the SX is a very attractive trike for 12-15year old Johnny boy so in that respect, it may sell for a fair amount.

Yea Chris , I'll probably list it on here once it's ready, but I never seem to have luck here, everyone is broke, we (large percentage anyway) are a poor crowd man , including me.

I'm going to at least paint the side cases up to look better and list my other fender as an option, in case they don't want a broken one or rather sticted one.
