A fly is buzzing around a river.
A fish spies the fly and thinks "If that fly drops a litle closer to the water, I can jump up and have fly for lunch."
A bear watches the fly and fish from the cover of brush on the bank and thinks "If that fly drops closer to the water, that fish will jump up and snatch him. Then I can reach out and grab the fish and have fish for lunch."
A hunter eating a grilled cheese studies all of this from his perch in a tree and thinks "If that fly drops down to the water, the fish will jump up and catch him and that bear will reach out and grab the fish. Then that bear will leave himself exposed for the perfect shot, and I can have bear for lunch."
At the base of the tree hides a mouse that is keenly aware of all of these things and thinks "If that fly drops down to the water, that fish will jump up and catch the fly, the bear will reach out and grab the fish and the hunter will drop his sandwich and shoot the bear. Then I can have grilled cheese for lunch."
Crouching in the bushes not too far is a cat, observing everything taking place around the river and thinking "If that fly drops down to the water, the fish will jump up and catch the fly, the bear will reach out and grab the fish, the hunter will drop his sandwich and shoot the bear and the mouse will run out and snatch the sandwich. Then I'll be able to pounce on the mouse and have him for lunch."
Sure enough, the fly drops down to the water. The fish jumps up and catches the fly. The bear reaches out and grabs the fish. The hunter drops his sandwich and shoots the bear. The mouse runs out and snatches the sandwich. The cat pounces at the mouse, slips and falls into the river and drowns.
The moral of the story: Everytime a fly goes down, a pussy's in trouble.
