    Cost of fixing...

How much do you guys think it should cost to fix the shifting forks in a 85 250r?

I think that's what he meant, as in how much would it cost for a shop to replace the shifting forks.

I'm guessing alot, since you'd have to split the cases, and the cost of parts.

One shop here estimated it would take 4-6 hours alone just to split the case, at $70 an hour. This is when I was calling around about some tranny work. So I could imagine it would be pretty pricy.
I know this didn't directly answer your question, but hopefully it helped a little.

This is something that you do yourself or don't do at all. Buy a new bottom end if you can't swap a tranny

Already got it fixed, just was wondering how much you guys thought it should be, it was diffently pricey. To answer your question ceaser, i bought the bike, went riding for the first time on the dunes, after a couple hours of riding gears started not shifting as good and started hearing a real loud clicking noise. so i stopped riding, later on look at it with my dad, and the oil bolt on the bottom was stripped and it had no oil in it...we thought it was the bearings, but only thing they could find was the shifting forks. now it is ready for me to come pick up. like 800 later lol

i guess i don't charge enough to do engine work! $250 is what i charge to dissasemble, reassemble a 2 stroke engine. plus paint, weld and any other such problems. and parts should have been about $150. for forks, gasket set, and oil seals. i also would have put at least new rings in it.
