    Quadrajet

    What does everyone think of Quadrajet 4 barrel carbs?

    The reason im asking is cause I found a 84 camaro z28 and the guy said it had a quadrajet with it and was wondering what yalls opinions were on the quadrajet carb.

    I also had a 70 chevy truck for my first truck and it had a quadrajet and i didnt like it at all, I would rather have put a Edelbrock 4 barrel or Carter 4 barrel carb on it.

    Qjet is the best if its set right (problem hard to find Qjet expert) my opinion. If ists not set right it is junk. Edlebrock and Carter are just aftermarket copies of Qjet for the most part. Holley is pretty much a total performance carb except for a few models. Qjet has a better sound than any other carb with an open air cleaner when the secondaries kick in. Smokinwrench loves that sound. Josh

    :-D the quadrajet was a good performer for stock applications, but only if it was set up right,very few people can tune a quad,hence the name quadrajunk.
    i have the original 4 barrel quad on my 86 camaro,runs great,but took forever to set up after last rebuild.
    who needs to go to the gym to workout,just own a 350x and kick your self to a whole new you.

    Q-jets make good wheel blocks. Go for a Holley. They are dependable, easier to find parts for and are much easier to work on while still in the car.

    if there tuned right they will blow anything away i saw a nova with one (they guy was a q-jet specilist) and i dont know that ive ever seen a street legal car that fast

    I like Q-Jets. The cool thinh about them is that the can get good gas mileage and they can also make power. They have small primaries (the 2 barreles your car runs off most of the time) and huge secondaries ( the 2 barrels your car opens up when you floor it). So with a q-jet, you can get good mileage if you don't step on it or you can go fast if you do steo on it and open up the huge ass secondaries. But I have always heard that it's hard as hell to get a q-jet tuned right (I never did it cause I had a mechanic that would adjust to carb (q-jet) on my K/5 for free).

    From what I've heard they are an excellent carb. The one ins my bro's car works great (1985 pontiac parisienne) and maney other people he's talked to like them.
    I was watchin a show (horsepower tv I think) and they had 170hp on a chevelle with one in it. Then they took it out put in a holly it was only like 167 then they did another $200 upgrade to the holly and finally got the same hp the started with.

    I'm really suprised I did that good, 2 hours before I wrote that I couldn't even sit, that's right sit. That was the drunkest I've ever been, my friend was throwing a basket ball at my head and it didn't hurt at all. I was still drunk when I woke up this morning, but no hangover (several glasses of water and some advil before bed helped).

    the old qjets are a fantastic carb in the right hands, but those hands are far and few. The qjet is perfect for most applications except full on racing (and still is competitive there), given the right tune.

    From my exposure I have to say Holly carbs are terrible unless your a carb expert and like rebuilding carbs every other year, They are hard to tune compared to edelbrocks. The thermoquads and Quadrajets are all-right carbs good for a stock application, and I have had/seen best luck with edelbrock and carter carbs. I have also had bad luck with mikuni carbs, and good luck and easier tuning with Kehin carbs.

    I agree with hemi here, the holleys are a higher maintenance carb. Edelbrock has the better product for the daily entuhsiast.

    On the other hand, I prefer mikuni over kehien...Theyre both good carbs i'v just always like the mikuni design a bit more.
