Bad 200x sparkadvancers?

Has anyone had trouble with 200x sparkadvancers? I have had two of them fail within a short period of time. The teeth snap off and....... noooo good. Is there something causing this or are they just crap? I thank all who help!

Is that the thing behind the cover that says CDI on the top end of the motor and bolts to the cam? If so I've only seen one that went bad and it was on my '84 200x. The two little springs broke. Only reason I knew they broke was because when I killed it in a mosquito infested mud hole I tried starting it again and the kick start would lock up like 3/4's they way through a kick, it really hurt. After about 20 min. it started and drove it home, I had no idea what it was, but for some reason I took that cover off and seen the chewed up springs.
