My tirke is getting ill! help!!

My 85 ytm 200 is making a terrible metallic sound from the rear end. doesnt do it all of the time, most on a turn when the tire seems to get good grip. it also knocks a bit during normal op. i am thinking the rear end diff is just shot. have a chance to buy another complete diff for about $100. thinking this is the way to go and that should fix whatever it is. what do you guys think?

Did the soung change when you accelarate or decellerate?? If so, I would think it is the gear in the rear end. Do you check the bearing and rear brake?

bearings and brakes seem okay, does it on acceleration, i am thinking gears by the metallic sound it makes.

You may get lucky and find just the bearings are bad?? The SX front pinion is a PAIN and you have to make a tool, not so sure about yours. But, unless you can find a known good one, you may just find another one that needs bearings too.
