Due to a steering damper on 84R, the former owner relocated the coil with this bracket.
If I make a nice aluminum one, will it no longer ground at all to the frame and will I have to run a seperate ground wire from one of the coil mounts to frame?

Aluminum will work perfect. It's used for both the common and ground wires in your home electrical panel.....
