$100 oem 84-85 Tecate chain buffer

Wow , a new oem, and of course discontinued, upper chain buffer just sold for 100 big ones for the 84-85 Tecate. Thank god i have an extra. I thought $44 a piece was a lot when i bought 2 of them a couple years back. Glad i did.

Seeing as I'm the one who bought it, I guess I should jump in here.

I've been dealing with Cycle-Shop.com recently. They've been checking for parts for me. I saw this on eBay and decided to check with them and they told me that Kawasaki told them it was available. However, I then was talking to the Tecate Kid about it, and he told me Kawasaki told him the same thing, but when the time came to get it, they told him they didn't have it. So I didn't know what the hell to do, so I just went ahead and bid on it.

This AM, I again talked to Cycle-Shop.com and they assured me it was being shipped. So, I don't know what the hell is going on. I guess I'll be slightly pissed I paid $60 more than I needed to for a piece of plastic (it's $39.55 online), but if it is in fact out of stock, I'll be happy I'll be protecting my freshly PC'd swinger. In the end, $100 is absurd, but, thought it's a good part to have than have not.

I'll keep you posted. Or not....hmm, I MIGHT have a new chain guard up on eBay shortly...$100???.....

I just bought one from my dealer in september??? The rubber that goes arround the swingarm anyway. Or are you talking about the block that bolts to the frame?

Yes, the one around the swingarm. Think i might check with my local dealer tomorrow. Never hurts to have a spare. Since the one extra i do have, will be going on an upcoming build. We all know, supply and demand dictates price. And we've all payed some inflated prices for certain things.

Well, let me know what you guys find out. I guess in the end $60 isn't going to kill me and it'll be good to have a spare around.

Went to the dealer and ordered a new chain slider. He checked warehouse inventory through Kawasaki, and it came up as out of inventory. But it is on backorder. But he said that that is in no way a guarantee i will ever see it. Don't have to pay till it comes in, so i figured it's at least worth a shot. I should know something by next week. We'll see.
