Check out my new 200X! Have a few questions though...UPDATED

Well, I finally picked up a 200X. I traded a dirtbike for it that i had $250 into...so technically, thats what i paid for this. Its a 1986, looks ok. It seems like they did a half-ass resto job on it. Some of the paint is cracking on the fenders and the paint job in general on the bike is not that great. No big deal....its going to be a rider anyway. It came with an 85' 200x parts bike that i am parting. Its in the classifieds if anyone is interested.

Now for my questions about it. Does it have the correct gas tank and rear fender on it? Maybe its just me because I can be kinda anal sometimes...but it just seems like the fitment of the fender and tank isnt that great. Also, What is missing under the seat? The seat has no way of hooking in so it stays partially lifted of the tank...and that annoys me. The only place the fender is held on is in the back by the latch. I think something got cut off of the frame. Theres a pic of the bottom of the plastics and the frame where i assume the seat would hook in....after looking at the pics, what am I missing? Can someone with an 86' 200x take their fender and seat off and take pics of it and send them to me so I can see what it looks like? That would be great.

It needs some head work, its got a nasty tick. It came with another head so Im just going to swap that and I should be golden. Then, I just need to get rear brakes for it and it will be ready to go. What you guys think. Not too bad for $250

That's a 86-87 frame and motor with 83-85 tank, front and rear fenders. Not sure what headlight that is.

The headlight is from an '83-85 200X. The rear fenders are probably Maier replacements which is why they don't line up with the tank very well, also they're from an '83-5 200X like said.
The seat is bent from the tank because the pan gets bent back from the vinyl pulling on it when sitting on it, most of them do that, I hate it too. You can apparently take it apart and use a heat gun to bend it back though.
Looks to be in pretty good shape though.

Sadly they cut the seat mounts off the frame and looks like they added some kinda of other mount. The tank isn't suppose to have screws in it either. Somethings not right with that rear shock either.
You're going to have a heck of a time getting that bike back to the way its supposed to be. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
And that's the rest of the story. ~ Paul Harvey

good deal man. it would do it. but the only thing about a 86-87 200x is parts arnt too easy to find sometimes. but other than that ive herd nothing but good things about em.
down to parts because i no longer have a place to ride trikes.

    GIT IT RAAAGGGGG !!!!

Whats wrong with the rear shock? I'll take more pics.

My goal was to take this bike back to origional. Now it seems like it may be a poor idea. Should I just part this out and look for another one? Thats what I am leaning toward.

Well the rear end shouldn't be sitting that high and the swingarm is at a crazy angle.
Not sure how the '86 shock is set up, but maybe he had the linkage upside down?
Take a pic and we'll know for sure.

First off.... for a $250 dirt bike trade, I think its a cool deal. The tank and scoops are from an earlier model 200x, the rear plastics look like Maier.... but not for an 86 200x?....... That whloe front end may be early 200x as well...... the headlight and fender seem to be anyways. Just the fact that it came with an older 200x shows that the previous seller must have done some creative swaps. Also, the trike seems to have way more rear suspension ttravel than a stock 200x? Oh well, just my 2 cents...... but why part it out? Seems like it could be a great rider with a little bit of help. My brother might have a spare white plastic 86 X tank that you can probably have (has about 2 inches of dust on it last I saw, lol).... I will check with him and pm you if he does. Like to post up some pics of my 86 for you but our camera is DOA. Good luck.

Yeah deffinetly sitting high. Prolly not an 86 shock. The swinger pivot bolt looks different too. By the looks of it you got 50% 85, 50% 86. I wonder what that kick start is off of. Not original but looks like it works. In need of one myself.

Most likely the shock isnt the right one. The 86s had blue shocks and had no linkage like the older ones. 86 shocks are smaller than the 1st gen. 200xs too. Theres no way the swingarm should be at that angle either. Its also missing the airbox and the fender mounts.

God, I wanna kill people that butcher machines like that! I don't know if I'd bother trying to make that one correct again after what Dr. Frankenstein did to it. I really dig the sheet metal screws holding the back of the tank onto the frame. Honestly, that trike can't be too safe too ride either. Part her out or find an 86 200x rolling chassis to put that motor in. Still a good score for a $250 dirtbike though.

I would try to find another one and take the best of the best parts from both..ebay the rest.. might be easer to find a anatomically correct roller..

me and Xman were looking at motor vin numbers the other day.. Just Between the two motors they were over 7000 bikes apart.. theres ALOT of X's out there!!
