    Buy a new needle valve
The person who says it cannot be done should not interrupt the person who is doing it.

Float should never need adjusting unless its been bent from factory setting. I dont know the X that well, but many floats have a metal tab that touches the float needle. It only takes a tiny bend to mess it up. More likely a leaking needle and seat if its not working right.

you can check it easy by putting a clear hose on the bowl drain and bending it up the side of the carb..open the drain screw..and you should be able to see the gas rise in the hose..the level should be even with the top of the bowl or just under..
