You better stop running those bars. The bend is before the end edges of the bar clamps and it scores the top of those aluminum bars. Then on a good jump someday they'll snap right off. I've seen it happen!!

I'm going to swap those bar's when i find a set with the right space between the mounts. Their just what the bike came with.

I made another wire, with more success, nearly there. But i need to get some more wire before i make an 85 one (only had a short bit left). Also i'v played with making a mounting bracket/plate of the 85 style. Not perfect and no pic's yet, but i think i have a simple way to form them now i hope.

Nice work. You planning on making those available to other members? I'd buy a couple.

For an 86 with 85 wire, Glamis has an 86 350X guide (same ?) item # 270134746789 , i'll make a new wire for it and send it to you if youre real keen ?
    ! -
If these 85's are any good i'll make a few to sell. But if it looks shite i won't !!

I'v looked at the 86 part and i'll have a go at it. But it will be much thinner material.
I need to get to the builders for some thick steel to make a former for the 85's, so they all come out the same (and right) so i may be another week before i get a good bracket that can be mass made.
As for the wire guide, i'll do them as soon as the wire is available on monday

Right, because i had one, i had a go at the 86 first. Not a bad first attempt

And on the bike with a wire guide, it looks a little better. This was relatively easy to make.

The 85 part though was a totally different story. I will not be making another one, it's nearly impossible to bend the metal to form the sides holding the wire. It beat me in the end.

Over all, not a wasted project but the 85 is far beyond my skill. I'll make another 86 out of some thicker material (original was 3m ) . Heres the final pic's side by side. The 85 is crap

Thats the thing, it only needs to be functional.

Anyone who performs a real "restore" will insist on a NOS OEM part.

But for you, me and the rest of us, ANYTHING that works is better than nothing.

A crude tool and die is all you need to get them all looking the same.

Pardon my French, but the 85 was too much of a tawt to bother with again. It takes too long to form. The 86, although the more complex design, was much easier to make. I was 6 hrs just on these two parts. And i doubt i could work any faster on the 85's.
86's, no problem. I could turn out 12 in a good half day if i did a batch. Just seems too much work and too long time to sell them for what their worth, which isnt much.
