    what are these?

I have never seen these before on any trike. are they some old accessory or something someone just slapped on there? I have not been able to figure out their purpose for the life of me.

I also noticed that my axle is different from my 200x parts bike. The axle tappered down from the bearing carrier and this one seems to be staight the whole length of the axle?

Those look like the attachment pieces for an old number plate, can't remember the brand right off hand. Could be an old durablue or NASA aftermarket axle, definitely not stock.

They look just like the ones on my Maier # plate, but then again, how many style spacers are there lol.

How were those pieces attached to the forks? Surely they werent ziptied on. It does have a headlight but no mounting bracket which I cant find any where. I compared the axle to a stock one that I sold and this one deffinatly seems longer. Also it had a Bassani exhaust on it but ended up selling it to buy a few things for this project. Man, Im really kicking myself for that now.

Does anyone have pics of any old NASA or Durablue ads? Im cruious about what brand this axle is.

    Heres a few more too.

I know a guy with a NASA 200X axle and it looks exactly the same as the one you describe, instead of tapering down at the hubs, it stays the same diameter. His is also a +2 or +4, I actually have a picture on my computer of the two axles side by side.

Looks like you have a cool period peice!

Im thinking its a +2 because it wasnt much longer than stock but enough to get me covered when riding through a mud puddle. I guess it wasnt a bad deal after all for 170 beans.

I'm willing to bet the axle alone was worth 150 out of that, possibly more. It's a vintage period piece.

Thanks for the info guys. I was going to do paint job on the frame and motor but since you mentioned that I think that Im going to do it. It runs great and the plastic isnt bad so that just leaves paint and a few odds and ends. I still need headlight mount, taillight, fork boots(ripped on last ride), and possibly a rear shock rebuild. I want to keep it as a rider though as its the only good 3wheeler I have to ride.

so is it a maier or something else? I would try to buy a number plate to match it if I could figure out what it was. or mabey one could be fabricated to fit it?

I think you can probably get any old sheet of thin-ish plastic and drill some holes. I would not like to "buy" something that can so simply be made at home.

They sure look like oem 85-86 Tecate wheels to me. I think 87's had a rolled edge.

After looking at them again, they do appear to have rolled edges. They could also be banshee wheels in the neighborhood of 89-91. They used the big bolt pattern for a few years. If they were painted, i would also think possible t-4 or Mojave. And yes, the bolt pattern is completely different. Wonder what hubs you have?
