    Odd acceleration problem on ALT125

I got an odd problem on my ALT125, it runs perfect, but if you gun the throttle, it just dies out, no matter what the needles are set at, you can gradually accelerate and it'll be perfect, but you can't hit the throttle quickly or it dies.

This isn't too important, I was just wondering if anyone knows what could be the cause.

Most likely getting too much fuel. You can try playing with the mixture screws, or rejet it.

Pulle the spark plug and tell us what it looks like. Better yet, put a new one in.

    1.) Check compression hot.
2.) Check level of fuel in carb bowl
    3.) fouled spark plug

The sparkplug is new, though it does get black really quickly, not sure if that's bad or not, the compression is fine, it's only if you gun it quickly, no matter how long it's been on, normal acceleration is fine, and it tops out normally.

I will try and drop the fuel it's getting tomorrow, too dark to mess with it now, I'll let ya know tomorrow.

The black plug is the problem, its "fouled" Whats causing that is the original problem, too much fuel from the carburetor. Check the fuel level in the bowl

Yea, I tried for about an hour to get it right, but even with a new plug, and the fuel needle nearly closed it still does it, I'm giving up, and letting my dad deal with it if he wants, if not, I mean, the bike won't get much use anyway, so it shouldn't be a huge problem.

Probably a float needle leaking, thats about the only thing that can cause it to be that rich. Or, the needle seat is worn.

Well, everything is brand new on it, replaced every needle, oring and jet on it, unless maybe the needle it came with is the wrong one, I'd have to check the originals.

Just checked the original vs the new one, the new one is a bit longer, and the point is thinner, at least according to my micrometer, I put the original on, it still has the problem, but it does feel like it has a more responsive throttle.

That being said, it is my mom's trike, so as far as I'm concerned I'm done with it, my dads is the one I'm in the process of doing a top-end rebuild to it, and we are picking up my birthday gift, a TRX200SX fourtrax and that one will be mine, seeing as I'm the heaviest .

All in all though, I gotta say, these ALT's are just what I was told, tanks, the one I'm rebuilding now had massive gunk, overheated, and the head still didn't warp, and only thing it needed was new rings, new guides, and a new intake valve, which looked to be the cause of the problem, since it was .2mm undersize and burnt to a crisp.
