I see the title is now revised and it says cr250 in it.

You would think the seller would mention that it does not fit the atc in the description. sneaky.....

I heard it said that only the 85 cr cylinder would work on a liquid R. Again this is only what i heard. Since the HPP didn't start til 86. The 85's ATAC was, from what i understand, simply a chamber in the exhaust pipe. So if thats true it would be in some regards the equivalent of using a kx cylinder on a Tecate. And a highly prized oem piece. I also heard that Mugen was formed by the son of Hondas founder. It was a separate but closely bonded company to Honda Motor Company. Mugen in japanese means "without limits" Pretty cool. Somewhere in this forum i've seen pics of a white stretched liquid R with a Mugen cylinder. To me this is one of the coolest of all time original old school pieces ever made.

The ATAC is a chamber in the exhaust with a butterfly valve, Runs off a governor on the water pump. There is a cross drilled chamber in the jug that has a rack in it witha spring pushing it up against a cam that rides on the water pump. As engine speed varies the rack moves back and forth turning a pinion that rotates the butterfly valve. On the smaller CR motors the jugs where the same for the ATAC and Non-ATAC models casting wise, just unfinished machine work. The ATAC actually bolted onto the jug inplace of the standard exhaust coupling. Cool setup (simple and the chambers where easily swapped out on the bike for more tuning), but requires regular maintenance (cleaning to prevent the valve from sticking open).

In the top most picture the rack is actual behind the socket headed bolt at the base of the exhaust port. on the opposite side theres a adjuster like on a rocker arm that sets the fully closed position.

Pete...are these aluminum sleeved/nikasil plated cylinders? Or are they typical cast iron setup?

Hey Pete, those things look amazing!! I never knew Mugen made these. What's the deal with them? Where they made specifically for the ATC 250R or were they made for the CR? Where did you get them? Im just curious. I would imagine they are very rare.
