Don't have a pic but the cable on the 85 goes along side the engine on the right Kicker side about at the height where the jug meets the lower unit. it has a special clip that bolts to the tranny, and I believe the 85 and 86 arms are at different angles. 85 being closer to 90 deg with the tranny and 86 being at a 45 deg. toward the back of the tranny. The 86 has the cable clip on the back side of the tranny on top of it and it is bolted to the 2 bolt holes there that almost look like the starter mounting bolt holes on the sx and big red 250 motors. The cable goes down the left shifter side and acroos the back of the tranny to the 45 deg angle arm. I am pretty sure this is correct because I put an 86 motor in an 85 frame. Basicly what makes them different is the clutch arms. Honda probably had trouble with the cable on the 85 getting hot from the exhaust manifold. Maybe this will help. Sorry my digital camera is down or I would send a pic of my spare 86 motor that is setup for the 85 cable. I also used the 85 cable on my 86 motor but i bought a new 86 cable (haven't installed yet)and they are not exactly the same. Hope this helps!

runs strait down the right side of the frame and under the head pipe.
    its a tight fit
The person who says it cannot be done should not interrupt the person who is doing it.

looking to put an 86 350X motor into an 85 350X frame. Does the 85 clutch cable work or do you have to buy an 86 cable? i see they are routed differently
