    cam chain

my old 200 threw the timing chain off from the crank gear while it was running. I put it back on , making sure the timimiing marks were set. Started it and it threw again. I tried this several times but got the same result.

I took out the tensioner to see if it was broken but it wasn't.

    I am at a loss !!
    Can someone one help ?

That was really BAD to put it back on. Didnt you expect it would come off again??????

No way to tell without seeing it. Put the chain back in (without starting the engien!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and set the tensioner to minimum and see how much slack is in the chain. Probably a stretched chain.

Also, look at the crank gear to see if its worn/broken teeth.

Replace the chain, its more than likely 20 years old and stretched
And that's the rest of the story. ~ Paul Harvey

"Yes its broken, but does that really surprise you?."
"What happened? What does it look like happened?!?!"
