Head and Tail Light Bulbs Keep Burning Out

I have A 1984 Honda 200s that keep burning out headlight and taillight bulbs. It's ok at idle speeds but as engine revs up the bulbs get brighter and brighter and then burn out. Any electrical Einsteins have an answer to my problem? This trike has been sitting for five years and I just got it statred last weekend.
    Thanks for your help...

it probably is the voltage regulator gone bad,,, better fix it before changing anymore bulbs,,,

ok, so I'm looking at the wiring diagram in my manual and I'm not seeing a voltage regulator. Where is it?

Just see if you can't buy a voltage regulator and put it on the yellow wire going to the lighting switch, I looked at the diagram for that, theres nothing, if not, try and get a high wattage bulb, or high voltage, I'm not sure how that works.

Test where the bulb connects with a multimeter and see if the voltage gets to some exaggerated number .

there isnt a regulator on the 200s's...

there is a lighting coil on the stator that you can replace.

My tail light last for about 10 seconds then burns out. I'm reading 33 volts from the wires that go to it at idle. It should only be 12+-10% no? Does this mean the lighting coil on my stator is bad? It's a 185s, so I dont think it has a voltage regulator. The tail light I tried was 12v 7 watt, just like the one I pulled out. Thanks

Edit:Hmm, from googling some more it seems i need both head and tail to be working, and the head light is busted atm

Okay so on an '85 ATC110 there should not be a voltage reg/rec or even a resistor/zener diode? If that's the case then obviously the light bulbs lasting any length of time depends on the correct wattage of bulb being fitted front & rear. This being the case, what watt? (pun intended)

    Cheers, Dan.

Looks like the head light is 12V/45W and tail light is 12V/5W. They might be goofy sizes that you won't find at an auto parts store, but the Honda dealer can order them.

Cool, I found the thread again!!! I'm guessing then that larger bulbs wouldn't do any harm (aside from a halogen front bulb not running hot enough).

Either way I might just make a new loom with a reg/rec incorporated 'cause I might fancy fitting a power point to run a stereo or compressor etc. off, especially as the original loom is cut about & covered in that gunk you get when some numpty has mummified the lot in cheap insulating tape after "repairing" it with twisted together connections & the tip of a woodscrew in place of the detent ball & spring in the killswitch...

Thanks for the quick reply anyhoo, playtime now methinks..

Free manuals in the 'world class help' section with wire diagrams too.

I can't say for sure but all I know is on my 90, BOTH bulbs need to be working in order to spread out the current or they will blow.

I like the idea of a regulator and I think dratv has some fixes and parts.
The old trail 90's had a rectifier to change ac from the stator to DC and needed the battery to soak up and 'moderate' the amperage.
so there was no real regulator.

    Where in Oregon?
