Kawasaki Kxt tecate Front Brake Lever Interchange

    Hi,

I just have bought a kawasaki tecate kxt 250 in good condition but the front brake lever is broken. On http://www.buykawasaki.com I saw that the front brake lever of 86kxt is not exactly the same that on 87kxt.

The difference between the 86 and 87 levers is that on the 86 there is a hole for the lever play adjuster screw which has disappeard on the 87 lever. Why... I really don't know.

I have found 3 86kxt levers to sell on ebay and no 87kxt lever.

    I have two question
    1) does a kxt86 lever interchange with a 87kxt lever ?

    2) I wonder if any kx motorbike has the same front brake lever that the kxt ? I am asking because the price of kx lever on ebay are less expensive than the kxt !

Thanks a lot for your help

well judging from the pics you have posted up in the other thread the bike looks to be an 86. does it have a keyed ignition or no? is there a parking break on it or no? looking at the pics on the other thread i didnt see the cable for the parking brake on the swinger so it is leading me to believe its an 86. like i said i am going by your pics. however i believe they were the only differences between the 2 years. i have both an 85 and an 86 and they both use the exact same levers for the front brakes. so going on that, i would say yeah they can interchange.

Yes you are right I am 99% sure it's an 86 tecate because indeed it hasn't the keyed ignition and I haven't seen any parking break. When it will be here at my place I will look to the rear brake caliper and pads to definetly be sure it's a 86 tecate.

Well if you look the parts diagram on www.buykawasaki.com you will see a difference between the front brake lever between the 86 and the 87 tecate. The hole for the adjuster play screw simply doesn't exist anymore on the 87 lever.

But I am 99% sure that they interchange but I go further by asking if a 86 lever coud be replaced by a KXmotorbike lever ? I have my doubt about it but was wondering if anyone has ever tried ?

The reason why I am asking is simply because a KX lever woud defintely be cheaper that a KXT lever.

then select ATV... choose marketing names : tecate... then hit the continue button... choose a year model of the tecate ...click on parts diagram...that's it welcome to the treasure pages of all tecate parts being listed. When I found this site I was in heaven :-)

Did it work ? and what do you think ?
