What did I do wrong?
I replaced the starter rope on my 185 this morning because the old one broke. Now it does not go back in like it should. What did I do wrong? It only goes back in about half way.

Did you wind it tied enough?
Is the spring catching properly?
Did you use too big of rope?
Howdy

I used 1/4 inch nylon rope. I think the springs are catching. Not sure if I wound it tight enough. It all came apart when I started to take it apart. I think I put it back together right.

You need to wind the starter before you insert the rope in it. Common newb problem. You got photos of the inside of the pullstart? I can walk you through it if I have visual pictures of where you should be sticking stuff.

you don't have to prewind it,,,, you can do that with the rope in it,,, there is a notch in the reel ,put the rope in that notch and wind away,,, then you don't have to try to put it together with alot of tension,,,
