    Carb huge fuel overflow

    Hi,

One week ago I bought a Tecate 86. I just have cleaned it a bit since last week and today I putted back the tank fuel and the air box (the air filter has been cleaned too). When I bought the tecate it was running on low fuel level in tank so today I added new fresh fuel/oil mixture.

When I try to kickstart it all my fuel was coming out by the three overflow hoses of the carb ! I was totally in chock. I put a bucket and let it drain and it eventually stop flowing when fuel in the tank was at the reserve level.

I decided to have another go and putted some fuel back in the tank and this time no overflow at all ! I started the tecate without any problem and it even idles perfect.

I don't really understand what has happened with the fuel the first time and I am scared it could happen again ! Has someone already had this same problem ?

It sounds like the floats and needle and seat where just a little dry and temporarily hung up. Once they had a chance to get a little lubed up with the gas they started working again.
If it happens again, tap the carb a little bit to see if the floats are just sticky, and turn off the petcock so you dont loose your whole tank of gas.
If the problem persists, your should check you needle and seat for any signs of wear, and check your floats and float level.

Thanks for your answer. I think you got it 100% correct by saying the parts were sticky because 2 days ago I started the tecate with nearly no fuel flowing at the carb...it idled very high and had to hit the kill switch in panic ! When removing the tank I saw I was too low on fuel to run it correctly... I am new in trike and still learning but within one week I had already two majors big surprises but until now with no bad consequences...luck of the beginner maybe

I'd just make sure everything within the fuel system is spotless and just continue to run thru it all with carb cleaner untill it all works out. Make sure to run an inline fuel filter.

Also, I don't know how mechanically competent you are, but be sure to run premix!

Just making sure, you'd be surprised how many people will run straight gas and blow the engine.
