ok ok I went out tonight when it was dark to check for a spark in the dark and there was a big blue one which was good so I put pre-mix down the sparkplug hole and wouldn't you know it she started right up so this leads me to believe the carb or the reeds are the problem so what do I do rebuild with kit or buy a whole new carb and reed set any suggestions? Thanks A.J.

    starts then dies

nothing to do with throttle position.there is usually a drain screw or cap near bottom of carb.first shut off pet cock and check the amount of fuel that comes out .then with drain open ,turn petcock on and observe flow. should be nearly as much as open line was . what trike have you got ?

sorry I've got a slow conn. see you already answered some.I agree it could also be ign. even if you have good spark,I've had 250r's that done simular and just cleaned connections on cdi box wires.I'd still check fuel flow through carb.

if its backfiring, it sounds like a broke flywheel key. I would pull the carb and clean the jets out good, while you have it off look at the reeds for damge and set everything to stock specs. Then with the fuel line unhooked turn on the fuel valve to see if you have good flow. If that doesn't work pull the flywheel and check the key for damage.

Take your old one with you to any auto parts store and have them match one up.
