Powroll stroker 200x...Worth it or not?

I sent a crank in to powroll that was visually in excellent condition, no visual wear on anything. It was out of a '91 XR200 with low hours. The listed price for the stroke work on the web site is $250.00. I was told the turn around time would be 5 weeks. 4 weeks later I make a call to check on it and was told it needed a timing sprocket. I quickly said "no problem go ahead and replace it" I would want a new one anyway just for the peace of mind. I think that bumped the price up to like $280.00. No big deal I was figuring it would end up running around $300.00 anyhow. Well I just called them again today (6 weeks) and was told that they have it disassembled and its going to need a new connecting rod assembly and pin because the one that's on it is worn. I'm thinking WTF? Well, I'm already into it this far, So I said "go ahead and replace it" Now the total is somewhere around $450.00 and we haven't even talked about the bearings yet. I'm getting discouraged and thinking there's no way it's going to be worth it. I guess I'm going to find out though, but at what cost. I realize that horsepower isn't cheap but k'mon It's only a 200.

some people like strokers and some dont. ive herd that for the cost of doing it its just not worth it. ive also herd that a stroker isnt too good for the motor. (dont ask me why that is i have no clue) if they didnt cost so danm much id get one but to me they arnt woth the money.

personally id never get one just because the bad stuff i hear about a stroker out weighs the good. such as the cost. i wouldnt be able to bite that bullet. id rather just port it, bigger carb, web cam, and more compression. but to each their own i guess.
down to parts because i no longer have a place to ride trikes.

Strokers are great but when all said and done it will still just be a 200x with a little more cc. Is that worth it to you?

I didn't forget. I was only talking about the crank work. The top end will be a whole new bill. lol
I'm thinking If I did It all over again I would probably go a different route. I mean the crank alone is going to cost double the price that is listed on the web site. I'm not trying to belly ake over the price, I always wanted a powrolled 200x and it's gonna happen. It just gets kinda hard explaning a 50% extra cost to the wife, ya know? I should have a grand total for the crank work the middle of next week.

well, better off doing it right and getting a lot of use out of it rather than cheaping out and having the worn parts break

my front end pulls up and im using a plus 4 swinger. but i have a crap load of mods. about the only ones i dont have are stroker, valves, and web cam.

i have a 30mm carb, 12:1 wisco, ported head, new D.I.D cam chain, a ronnie lighten flywheel, and bord to a 67mm piston. ooo and 2 new cam sprockets.

i might do a stroker next year but im not sure yet. i doubt it very much.

That's what I mean by a different route. I bet I could buy that engine, do whatever fab work needed to get it in, and to get everything working right plus follow it up with some powder coating for less then I'm going to have into building and coating my motor and the lifan motor has somthin I love to have...Reverse
I'm committed to this motor though, and I'm it's gonna be a beast when I'm done. But I doubt I would point someone in the same direction that I'm going, simply because of the cost.

I raced a poweroll xr75 back in the '70's and believe me those folks know what they're doin'! The thing was so friggin' fast when i moved up to 125's my little brother raced my XR for a year and a half against the (at the time) bike to beat the YZ80C and blew 'em away. Say all the bad about strokers but that's how they did the XR back then. They sleeved the cylinder to use a smaller piston and then stroked it back to 80cc's. Also if Powroll said you needed a new this or that then it wasn't gonna last long in your stocker either, and definately not if you bored it out, cammed it etc. I'm planning on installing their whole line in my 200X when I have the cash saved. Bored & Stroked, Big cam + I'm gonna put about a 28mm carb on it, relief port the head and do 3 angle valves. It won't act like a 200 in the least. I've been there with Powroll.

Yea, It's testimonials like yours that put me on the path to powroll. I'm sure I wont be disappointed and I'll be glad knowing that everything is tight and done right. It's just a lot of green for an like me.

well, just remember. If you went a diferent route and bought all the possible parts for that baby and beefed it up, when you came to look for more power, the stroker would be the last option you could do to it for any real power gain.

I've seen powroll make some time bomb combo's but this one is fairly safe.
