    Tecate petcock leak

    Hi,

I have a (minor) leak at the fuel petcock of my tecate. Even if it's not too bad until now I know that it will be a problem in the future so I would like to fix it.

Unfortunatly all the schematics for this bike online have the complete unit only at approx. 45 dollars. I just need one gasket I think the one at the tap lever because the leak is located there. The schematic for the KLT-110 is more detailed and the fuel tap of KLT-110 looks really the same than the kxt but the partnumbers are different...so it shouldn't be exactly the same.

In case I should have to replace the 2 gaskets I found a KLT-110 fuel tank gasket and I am 99% sure it should match the one in the tank of the kxt. See the pic below.

So What do you think ? and for the other o ring (fuel tap lever) I really don't know where I cand find that ?

i used the rubber o-ring type gasket off a kx125 petcock on mine. was the same exact thing. worked perfectly.
1985 KXT 250 Tecate - kx cylinder, kx ignition, bassani headpipe, answer silencer, v-force reeds, 38mm airstyker carb, +2 franks swinger, raptor rear shock.

    1996 YSF240 Blaster - maxxed out!!!

Just get a new petcock off a different machine... You might be surprised how many choices you have... Most 2-stroke machines that have a reserve supply and a mikuni carb will likely bolt up the same...

Well having read that I am wondering if the previous owner of my tecate hasn't already replaced the stock petcock with another one. Altough on the schematcis it looks like a stock one but the Mark of my petcock is MBK and correct me if I am wrong but MBK belongs to Yamaha isn't ?? why should kawa have used a MBK petcock ????

Although I haven't done it myself. I have heard that a banshee petcock bolts right up. Its a much better built unit. The oem tecate one is not a very good design.

A blaster petcock bolts right up. Stronger design too than the tecate.

I agree for the blaster petcock it looks very similar to the tecate. It should fit.
The banshee too looks very similar. See the pic attached it's a petcock of a 1987 banshee.
I may try to replace my tecate petcock with the banshee one. I will let you know if it's work or not.

I have done it. I will get a few pics up later of it on my tank. From the pic of the banshee that should work also, looks just like.

Where was all the leaks at? If you have a leak from the petcock to the tank itself, its best to use two of the rubber seals... Ones not good enough over time...

all leaked from tank to petcock. so you got a blaster petcock and just added an extra seal then yeah?

Yes, mine even leaked from the tank too. I used the old tecate seal and the seal with the blaster petcock when I got that. Unless you get a new petcock with seal etc. It may not leak but either way using two seals is best.
