tecate guys i need your input....

ok, the time has come for me to get a nice powerplant for the 86 t3. what i would like to do is go a bit more upto date though. i am looking at a newer kx250 motor i believe its a 98 or 99, one of the two. i did notice that where the top motor mount is located in the front of the head instead of the back, but that looks like the only part that will need to be somehow modded, more then likely just the motor mounts themselves. has anyone ever done this, or is anyone attempting to do this. i know i will have to slightly mod the headpipe, but thats no biggy at all. i plan on using a pro circuit pipe and silencer. any input from you guys is much appreciated, and i thank you in advance. oh yeah, happy easter everybody!

It's a great idea for you to want to use a newer style kx250 motor!! Wouldn't it be better to grab one a tad older though, like 94 or so because I think the new ones are detuned a bit like the kx500's where.. I think haha

These motors give you plenty aftermarket and nice exhaust choices but they will have to be made to fit

did not know about the de-tuning. ok, so 90-94 then? the exhaust im not to worried about having to mod.

KX250 motors are not detuned, in any year.

They do have a 17mm swingarm bolt so you will need a bushing to go inside the swingarm bolt hole through the back of the motor.

Go with as new a motor as possible.

using an '03-'04 head will allow use of the rear headstay on the '93-'02 engines... thats what I did.. I have a '98 cylinder on mine... the performance is far from de-tuned... '95-'98 have more desirable transmission ratios than '99-'01... I would use a newer pipe that is a closer match to the engine... The '92+ engines have a 7mm stroke difference from the T3..

Wasn't to sure on the kx's.. I do like Raffa's idea though, a newer 250 4 stroke would be pretty nice but then you run into that or the 450 for more power

The KX250 will fit with very few mods... and a KX250 will destroy a 250f...

If he's going to go through the process of fitting a newer motor in there, he might as well atleast make it fast. That means no 4 pokes.
