all you need to do is find TDC ( cam lobes will be pointing down) and set to the gap you want.....simple

no idea on the compression but ill take a stab and say 8.5:1
    80s......185 atc, Yamaha tri-moto 200, 85 200x with tons of work
90s......89 Suzuki quad racer 250 (raced 250 A class for 6 years, late 90s.. custom framed 250x with long travel shocks and a built 350x motor.... built Honda 110
00s...... chomeoly framed 350 RX with all the goodies (thanks to my bro)
    2012.....Replaced the 350x motor for a 444cc YZ426

ok, compression should be 8.0:1 if your using a stock type piston. or if your using a stock 200x piston its 9.6:1. you could be running a wiseco 10.25:1 also.

    why no fire

my 185 seems to have no fire. I have tried 2 new plugs and nothing, i have changed out the ignition coil and still nothing, Today i checked the timimg and seems to be all correct and wires are not cut or crimped and connected. I pull the thing over until the cows come home and nothing and im stumped. Any help would be muchly appreciated.

You need to test your stator, its a bit of a common problem with them,

Follow the steps, SPARK, FUEL, COMBUSTION!

unscrew the plug but keep the cable hooked to it.. have someone hold the ground of the plug close to the block and then pull the cord and see if shes sparking..

If spark is good then move to step 2 to see if shes getting fuel

The exciter coil (behind the fly wheel) will cause these not to run. Pull the plug and you will have spark (should be a nice bright blue) put it back in and you could loose it . If the exciter coil hasn't been replaced ....... it seems like a good idea to replace it
