calling all 86-87 tecate guys need help with tank skin

I googled Hornet powersports and came up with a website and called the number and talked to the guy one on one. He said he never made them but has people calling him and is now considering it.

Quite possible the member here is a different entity then the Hornet Powersports shop that came up under google.

I think thats what it is, would be cool though if this other hornet powersports did consider it..

yeah, needed a place to store it, so i slapped in the 86 fraame, hahahahaha. the 86 is gonna be getting a 04 or newer kx motor hopefully by christmas.

I was about to say, a 84 85 motor in an 86 87 would not be very cool, a newer kx though is somthing else.. Would be real nice if somone made a 450 4stroke tecate

I think Hoosier has a very valid point- if somebody is making 86-87 Tecate shrouds, they're doing an AWFUL job of letting people know. I searched high and low for months (before I was on this forum) for a right shroud for my 86. Finally a pair shows up on ebay and I had to buy them, no matter how much they were. I ended up paying $325 for the shrouds and I only really needed one! So that's $325 for $2 worth of plastic. I'm not complaining about the price, I was glad to even be able to get them. But if somebody is making these, they should really let people know.

How so? An auction listing that shows rad shrouds for $255 and people pay upwards of $300 for them, yet they are supposed to be available? Where are they then? And if they are so available why are people paying more for shrouds then some pay for an entire trike? Best of all, every honda part he listed can be found on Ebay for $100 or less. My point is valid but nice try.

All I was pointing out is ANYTHING Honda is 10 times more available then Tecate stuff. So I can't see why someone complains when Tecate guys FINALLY catch a break and the Honda people complain. Not meant to offend you and just like you said in your post, I'm not trying to be a jerk. Just sayin' we Tecate guys finally catch a break, please let us have this one.

wow, i cant believe the price of them auctions, i got my fullset (both left and right shrouds, plus headlight plastic) for 150 shipped. also, another point for me to make, the more people making them, theres bound to be some competition in pricing. instead of having to spend 300 bucks for a set of shrouds, you might be able to go to a competitior and get them for way cheaper. just my 2 cents, and now adays with the way the economy is, the cheaper the better if you ask me. i know it doesnt cost an arm and leg to produce them, so why should you be charges that much, just because there is only one person making them, and that person can ask what he wants cuz they know they will get what they ask. please, give me a break.

please, the more people that supply us t3 guys the better.

I PM'ed Justin here on this forum 6 months ago and got 2 pairs for $130 a set.

The guy is a great ebay seller. From what I see, and I have been buying Tecate parts off ebay since 99, he lists shrouds and headlight buckets once a month or so. People who buy these flat out don't do their homework?

It a supply and demand thing, if you value your $ and don't ask questions, you deserve to pay 300+.

And what about the quality? Pretty close to stock fit and finish

The only way this will be worth a turn in investment is for DC is to do the skin and shrouds separate.

Maybe you haven't noticed but I am a "Tecate guy" too and will be needing shrouds some time this year. You all are missing the point - there are many 3 wheeler parts that could be remade - not just the ones I mentioned - that would help many trikers out and I don't see the point in having several suppliers make the exact same parts when not all are available - apparently I'm the only one who feels this way so I must be wrong. If hornet is and continues to be mia then I'll be the first to say go for it DC, but if he is willing to sell scooterroo shrouds and a shell for $150 not $200 - $300 and if he'll do the same for other members here - which he has in the past - I believe we as a community should not be looking for someone new to make the exact same parts. But again apparently I'm the only one who feels this way so I must be wrong and I'll leave the rest of you Tecate guys alone.

I can see what your saying but even though they are not new 350x headlight shells are on ebay right now. Atleast 8 I saw from taking a quick look. There wont be that much tecate shrouds on ebay new or used anytime soon. If we can get more than one making these shrouds that will make them more available and probably lower the price some that a new set brings in. If I needed a 350x headlight I could go buy one on ebay right now, even though its used. If I needed tecate shrouds, used or even new it will be a waiting game. Just saying..

I got a set of shrouds and a Headlight bucket from Justin about 12 months ago. Exelent product and he was good to deal with. BTW I nearly paid my money to the wrong company because there was another company trading under a very similar name. Perhaps you've spoken to the wrong people, Hoosier.

I hope Justin hasn't shut up shop because I was thinking of buying another set.

As for the DC prototype, after a bit of time looking at the photos I've come to the conclusion that I'm not a fan of them. Admitally they are only a prototype and that the photos weren't the greatist. But you have to consider who the market is for these things. People restoring Tecates back to their former glory. Only reproduction parts that look close to the original design are going to cut it IMO.

I know, I don't want to have "arguably" the best racing three wheeler ever mass produced sitting in my shed looking like its been pimped out. Perhaps the 250R market could cope with another tank design as there are still heaps of them around. 86/7 T3s are rare and they're tanks and shrouds ever rarer. They were the last shot that was fired in the 3 wheeler performance war.

DC has done some great work on these things to get them looking as good as they do, and You guys should be commended for stepping up on this issue, but unless it looks close to orignal as possible I don't think I will be buying a skin.

I'd recommend a skin that covers just the tank only with it edges finishing in the gaps left by the shrouds.

Well, let me say first off that some of the members that say they PM'd me, for some reason I have not recieved your message. For what reason, I dont know and I apologize for that. I do have the 87 Tecate 3 radiator shrouds available, as well as the headlight shroud. They are OEM replicas and so far everyone that has purchased these from me has been happy with them.
I have been extremely busy with work, so I havent advertised them on here or e-bay lately, but anyone on this site can do a search for Tecate shrouds and see that I sell them.
