I'm waiting for Jenn over on .org to reply to my PM so confirm that it is a direct gear swap.

If all you are after is the gears which really is about the only thing usable from the XR200 bottom end, then it may be just as easy to get them from honda if you still can.

Do a search, there's plenty to read about the xr swap on these boards, but I'm pretty sure you've gotta use the xr bottom end w/xr cases. Good Luck.....

Really? I have never done this swap but I have read a lot about it. I believe the 200x cases work fine, but you need just about everything else in between. You need both XR gearsets, shift drum/forks/shaft. The kicker assembly needs the XR gears but the X shaft needs to be swapped over.

I couldn't find anything deffinitive on .org about the conversion. What I found was her thread questioning it and what all is involved but at the end of the thread I knew no more then when I started, just a bunch of mixed opinions from the members.

Seems to me like gears, shift drum and fork(s) and possibly the lever should do it.

yes, so what all would you need to drop a xr200 6-speed into a 200x bottom end?

also, are the 1,2,3,4,5 gears on the xr200 the same ratio as the 200X, and 6th gear just ads more top end? is a xr200 geared lower then the 200x? or is the 200X geared lower then the xr200? thanks.

heres the other tread on this: (xr200 trans swap starts at 1/2 of page 1) http://3wheelerworldforums.com/showthread.php?t=81968

It looks like there are two ways of going about the swap. If you are fortunate enough to find a good XR200 engine here is what is the best option to do. Swap the 200X kicker and side cover onto the XR engine and use that. But its not quite that simple. You still have to split the case on the XR to put the 200X kicker in it because part of the kicker mechanism is on the inside of the case. The cases of both engines are identical, only the parts that are put inside them, and the kicker and cover are different.

To put the XR200 gears into a 200X case you must split the case and transfer over all transmission components into the 200X case. There are only a couple reasons why you would want to go this route vs the first route. Your donor engine has a bad crank or some other issue like mine does. Or you are a stickler to detail and want to keep the stock engine case for the numbers, and just because you like to keep things original to an extent.

I personally am going to swap the XR gears into my 200X case.

Get in touch with 200x Basket. I believe he did this swap if I remember correctly. It has been several years.

I am and I have. Been posting on .org and thats pretty well what was decided. You either put the 200X kicker in the XR engine and run it which requires splitting the case or you put the XR gears in the 200X which requires splitting the case. Either way your gonna be splitting the case.
