I'm gonna see how well WD40 traps the dirt particles. It would certainly be cheaper, cleaner and easier to apply...

I can't believe that some people still use wd-40 to protect ANYTHING on an offroad machine.

This topic was brought up to see if anyone of you guys had anything else that could be used as an alternative to air filter oil.

It didn't mean that I'd never use filter oil again, it was merely a question.

WD40 works great at removing moisture from wiring and ignition systems, it's also always worked decent for cable lube in a pinch, and it may work well in trapping dust particles in an air filter. I'm not sure yet and I haven't tried it out.

WD40 also helps remove dirty and contaminated nuts and bolts and helps things slide together that are dry and stubborn.

Yes folks, WD40 may in fact still be useful in the offroad industry. But thats not up to me, I'm not an expert..........

You said it best when you mentioned "in a pinch".

Use SAE 80 or 90 GEAR oil. Don't use too much or it will restrict air flow.

This has to be one of the dumbest threads ever. It isn't like a airfilter has to be done everytime you ride, how much did you pay for your bike? Unless it was free or a complete beater , then what is 6 or 7 bucks to protect your motor and not have to fool with rebuilding it? If a alternative oil is used, I would use regular motor oil, but it isn't going to work as well, and wd40 is definately not going to cut it. Just by testing to see if it traps dirt or whatever, you put yourself at risk of putting wear and tear on your motor. You can't fill up a 3 wheeler tank with gas anymore for the amount you are discussing, nor buy even a quart of good 2 stroke oil etc. If a bottle of filter oil is too high this isn't a hobby for you haha.

Hey mister I-know-everything I got a couple of question for you. You seems to know everything about filter oil.
What is so special about filter oil?
Sure the company that sell you the bottler wrote on it that it is specially formulated to increase the filter life and decreased engine wear, but can you say what is the exact formulation of that oil?
Where are the fact about filter oil?
They may sell you loose nut or WD-40 in a different bottle and you won't know.
I remember reading my Honda user manual and they say to clean the filter in solvant and oil it with regular engine oil. Don't you think HOnda know it better than you.

I'm not sure why I'm gonna waste my time on this but I will....

What part of "IS THERE A" don't you fools understand??

Are you stupid? or is it just today? or is it a full moon?

None of you clowns who do not have or cannot recommend an alternative need reply. The topic will merely go away on it's own....

It's a question, like this one "is there an alternative to Yamabond?" - Answer "yes, there are numerous manufacturers of liquid gasket which will work just as well"'.

I've got plenty of money for filter oil, just wondered if anyone used anything else that was either less expensive or performed better.

For all I knew, someone who has raced and wrenched for years has found out that PAM spray or Bees wax works great and even better than air filter oil

    Again, with your stupidity........

Anyone who advised against anything other that filter oil could have said, "I wouldn't risk using anything other the the right stuff....."

But apparently you had to raise your feathers like a cock, oops, I meant to say peacock

Dude, this isn't your back yard, it's the internet. If you post something dumb chances are people will call you on it. I mean you're really delusional if you think you have the right to the perfect internet conversation. My actions in your precious thread are not about trying to look like the alpha dog, it's about how stupid and cheap people can be. I mean seriously, you started out by bitching how much filter oil is. Boo hoo, either you need a better job or like Pumper said you need a new hobby. I'm still blown away that people would use WD-40 on a filter! My sympathy really goes out to anyone that can't instantly tell a difference between WD-40 and filter oil.
