    1984 250r vs 1985 250r

what are the other difference between both?

i know these one : - air cooled vs liquid cooled
    - 248cc vs 246cc
    - 70.0 x 64.4 mm vs 66.0 x 72.0 mm (bore and stroke)
    - 6.6 to 1 vs 8.0 to 1

    what's the difference in performance?

    potential?

    reliability?

Well, here is my stab at it....

I own an 83 250r. Hands down you get much better performance all around on the 85. The liquid cooled makes it much better in the summer months in regards to cooling. I know from experience :x that the 85 will beat the 83/84 models. As for reliability, hey they are Honda's, they run forever. I know it is a little easier to rebuild the air cooled r though, less parts. I think if you have the choice, spend a little more and get the 85. I love my 83r though, it's fun and fast.

    hey

    hey man,

I have owned all years of 250r's the 84 is a great machine, but 85 will woop the 84's butt as far as speed and HP. 85,86 has 6 gears compared to 5 and watercooled. If you are looking to add aftermarket performance or body parts you will have also have better luck with a 85 because there are not many aftermarket parts for the 81-84 models the ones they have are hard to find. BUY the 84 if its $300. test it out and fix it and see if you like it. if you decide you need more speed, you can always sell it and get $700-900 out of it and use that towards a 85-86. I have a 85 that is built to the balls, I have $7,000 into my R and it is FAST!!!!! but speed costs money.
