I'll get some better pics when I can take the 500 out of the shed, she's just together for a mockup. The pipe is a PSI that was altered to fit, I'll get some pics of that, too. It's been a long journey with the 500. From making brakes to $325 replica radiator shrouds to obsolete everything! Two of the pics of my 85 are really old. The one in the shed is recent. It's got a nice CRF pipe on it. The thing rips!!!

Hey Fabio, lookin good! Looks like you still have some work ahead of ya before you can tear it up! Welcome to the forum. I have only been here a short while and have learned a ton. This is a wealth of knowledge be sure to use it to your advantage.
There are quite a few Tecate 500's around. A few members here have built them, and still have them in their arsenal. You may want to check around on the air filter problem and any other hurdles you may have, as it has all been done before.
This project of mine was an idea 10-15 years in the making, and noware near the easiest way to get the bike built. I'm sure there is more than one T5 owner scratching his/her head asking why!, mine works just fine! If I didn't do it, it would always be in the back of my mind as a better, cleaner way.
Why the compression release? There is plenty of room on a kawi for a full kicker, unlike poor Billy, trying to kick over a 500 with a blaster kicker!
Anywhoo, looks great............especially for a thread hijack! lol!!
Yeah, I'm new to this whole forum thing... I thought about it last night after I posted my pics and came to the conclusion that I probly should've started my own thread. Sorry! I felt the compression release was a good idea because I only weigh 145 lbs, and the guy I got the motor from said he used to snap kickstarters all the time. I paid $100 for a brand new kicker, and I'll never have to do it again. I hear it'll kick over like a 125. I got a little K&N that will fit, but again, it's little. If you look closely you'll notice my red shock. It's off a 400EX. It was almost a bolt-in. Just a couple small mods to get er in. Unfortunatley, it's upside-down. I'm hoping it doesn't affect it being that way. I have the stock shock, but it's blown. I was looking to rebuild it, but came into many dead-ends. I saw a little info on another thread in here last night, but nothing definate. Anyhoo, this was my first time responding to a thread, next time I'll start my own. Sorry!
Oh, by the way- that pipe is unreal! I hope I'm not overstepping my bounds, but how much did that cost you? The pipe was my biggest concern when I started this whole thing.
Awsome Tecates you guys!

Thanks BigGreen! How'd you get a 500 in the 85 frame? I was gonna do that but I ran into the problem of the KX exhaust port going straight into the front downtube for the frame. I was thinking of cutting that section of the frame out and building something different, but them I came across the 86 and grabbed it.
nice. I have a kxt500 in the works. I also have a CRF pipe for my 86 KXT.
Both of you have some awesome Tecates!!!! Out of curiosity, is it really hard to keep the front whel on the ground? Or can you just dump the clutch and let the wheels spin and take off like crazy? I've always wondered how ride-able the %00 would be.
325 bucks for the radiator shrouds? wow, i got my set for 150 shipped to me and that also included the headlight shroud all brand new. where did you get yours from? nice t3's by the way. where did you get the 500 decals from?

definately not an 86 axle, it is an 84/85 carrier and axle. more then likely 84 judging from the hubs. also the rear disc and sprockets are from the 84/85 model. what also makes me say 84 is the rear caliper is an 84 model caliper. but it does look like an extended axle, which is nice. cant wait to see this thing all painted up finished. nice work.

Well, here is a quick update.
I didn't have a whole lot of work today, so I spent most of the day on the 500. I got a chain slider fabbed and mounted, chain on, and adjusted. Put some gas in it and fired it up. The pwk I have wasn't jetted correctly for the pipe, she blubbered down low, and ran out on top. So I mounted up the lectron, and HOLY S**T! is it fast! I only needed minor tweeks to the lectron and she was ripping!
It doesn't have a whole lotta low end (It still has plenty!! It is a 500!), but it revs like a 125. crazy feeling. Of course this in the parking lot, on pavement, so the real test will be in the sand. It is not for the faint of heart, It is pretty violent when it gets up on the pipe.
I'm really excited at this point. I still have some hurdles to jump, the fuel petcock is leaking like crazy, the lectron's float needle seat leaks, and I need to finalize the air filter pipe.
Other than that, cleaning up some welds, and she's off to powder coat! I'm stoked, can ya tell!!!

Are you going to post riding videos when you get it finished? That would be awesome! I'd love to see this bad boy in action!
