Take it to a machine shop, you wont be able to aquire the tools to do it proper, valve grinder, Seat grinder, Lappin stick and some compound, and of course the spring decompressor.

90's ans 110's are the worse to do..... as long as you have a spring compresser you can get them in and out
    80s......185 atc, Yamaha tri-moto 200, 85 200x with tons of work
90s......89 Suzuki quad racer 250 (raced 250 A class for 6 years, late 90s.. custom framed 250x with long travel shocks and a built 350x motor.... built Honda 110

This is where the confusion comes in. Honda says not to grind the valves which I would assume that lapping would remove whatever coating is on there also.

I took my 250SX head to my Huge Honda dealer and he cleaned it up, put new valve seals in, said the guides were good and charged me 150$.

I asked "why didn't they get lapped? there are hours on this motor" and they insisted they never touch valves. Sounds F'd up to me....

It's just so hard to find a good reputable machine/motor shop that is reasonable.....

I did assemble a 200X head with a huge c clamp and a piece of pipe cut away for the keepers to slide in, it worked but the correct tool would certainly be sweet....

i always lap honda valves with no problems down the road

i think they were feeding you a line of BS

anyone know the trick of useing a cordless drill to lap valves? i use a cordless drill since they normaly spin slower but put the drill on low and insert the valve in the head with laping compound on the head and put the valve stem in the drill and lap away.

i go in one direction for a few seconds and then go to reverse....this also will make any bend in the valve easy to spot

just be 100% sure not to get any lapping compound on the stem since it will chew up the quide

Valve spring compressor & a lapping tool with compound. Most of the heads I've done just needed lapped. A few had worn out valves, but not very many. I got my valve spring compressor at Sears. Lapping tool at Advance Auto or Autozone.

i'm not even sure it needs valves. i bought it with no compression. pulled the head and saw it was on the stock piston. bought 2 sizes over just to be safe and figured i'd do the valves as well. maybe i wont.

i just did a 70 head yesterday with no problems,,,just need a magnet and a pick to get the keepers in, you can lap them yourself, See where there cutting, see what they look like, but they probably need the seats re-cut, to do it properly, Easy trick to tell, Lap em, and see if you can see any light though the ports,,,if there is, there done.

i had a C clamp with a ball end that compressed the springs no problem. i think i made a small mark on the end of the intake valve with the C clamp end however, not sure if it's a big deal or not. I couldn't believe how easy it was though. How should I go about cleaning up the head and valves? wire brush and carb cleaner?
