    Post 1982 yamaha xt200

I picked up a 1982 yamaha xt200 as a project bike to day. It is missing the left sidecase, kickstart and one of the gears that connects the gear shaft to the crank.Does anyone have pics of the bike's setup with the left sidecase off to see what I am missing or a manual or a parts diagram? Also are there any things to look for on this bike(problems) and is this a fast bike.

    thanks

err I dont think any 200 4 stroke could be fast, but it should be low maitanance and reliable,I just got a xt350 and found a manual quite easy with a few minutes of searching ,yamaha seems easy to find free downloadable service manuals....long live the xt's

I found a trailway 200 manual for it and thats about it. Its a really hard bike to find parts for(only made the xt200 for 3 years). I need a clutch, pushrod, kickstart shaft and gear, kickstart lever, carb cylinder and top, right crankcase cover,a pipe, right footpeg, clutch cable. I haven't even found a pipe to fit my 1981 kawasaki ke100. My 3rd and last bike is a 1974 yamaha enduro 80 which runs great but it has no kickstart and the oil leaks from the oil injection pump gasket and the tire is soo dry rotted and cracked up I can see the inner tube in some areas lol. The tire will be replaced soon though.

Most of the old bikes up here in Canada are in one of the 3 conditions.

2.Driven into the ground and nothing left
3.Absolutely mint and the owner wants your bank funds for it lol

I don't think I have any of those parts; basically I have a transmission and center cases. Check for the TW200 and BW200 parts, many of those will swap over.

as for the speed of an XT... I dont rekon theyre awfully fast compared to other similar displacement bikes. My mate has an 81 XT250 and I rekon its similar power and speed to my dads old XL200. Dads new XL250 is way quicker acceleration then the XT imo.

My mate paid $600 for his 81 XT250 and now it is in very good condition apart from the fact that it uses oil. When he got it it wasnt road legal but he bought indicators and a tail light for it and got it re-vinned now its road legal. It is pretty good on road. He originally bought it for off road. It probably would be alright for going off road but I dont know how the road gear wud handle it but chances are the one you bought wont have road gear on it.
