    85-86 250R Front brake master

    Howdy all,

So my front brake works fine (for now) on my '86 250R. The master cylinder however is showing signs of wearing out and just over all nasty looking. The brake line also isn't all that great either.

So, I noticed that some times master cylinders (with lever) and lines fit from other bikes.... The OEM stuff costs a truck load, I think I saw it listed at $250.00 just for the master cylinder alone.

Anyone ever replace the front master and line with something else and have it work well and not be ghetto?

I find that Banshee front MCs are a dime a dozen - works well too because they are designed to push dual calipers up front.

I agree that the yamaha levers a cheap, but i kept the stock one on my 350x and added a set of new braided lines for the front and rear. New lines are a little costly (10mm ends are sold separately) but they look good and i dont foresee any major issues. So although my stock date coded hoses weren't damaged/leaking it was just an upgrade i felt was worth it...
