    New ATC 250R (again)

It's great that this forum exists, Im new to all of this but I love and miss the old 3 wheeling days of the 80's growing up here in San diego, Ca. So Now that Im older and have credit cards Im totally sucked in!! Anyway, after years on ebay buying vintage BMX parts. I just discovered craigslist and found this bad boy right here in El Cajon, Ca. It doesn't need much but I want to do a simple "back to original" restore. The 1st project I did was the hadlebars and gas cap vent hose. And I took off the aftermarket headlight guard. Anyone have a Hondaline headlight guard they want to sell? Next will be to mount an original pipe and muffler but I have to admit it's going to be hard to take off the beautiful Paul Turner Hi-Rev pipe that not only looks awesome but sounds bad ass. The biggest thing I would like to fix are the wheels, the outsides are nearly mint but the insides look like they were put in a bead blaster! Anybody now about having wheels anodized? Or have some NOS gold wheels? Also my carb looks original but the brass fuel inlet is vertical and I think originally they were horizontal and used a 90 degree elbow fuel line. I've noticed many people with the carb I have, and then have to route the fuel line in an ugly loopty loop.
    Ok, more later

Welcome to the site, you have a very nice R, and a very clean collection. Some people really aren't into the highly modded machines with a lot of aftermarket parts. I personally dont care either way, i can appreciate both, but wouldn't spend a fortune for NOS or brand new aftermarket stuff, just because i plan to use it...

    more photos

Here is a pic of my 1st minor project. Keep in mind im not very mechanically savy as I can see alot of people are here on this forum. So finding some old straight oem handlebars and replacing the newer modern bar the previous owner had sure makes me feel proud of myself..lol Im not computer savy either, Im trying to figure out how to attach larger file size photos without going over the size limit

Man even the headlight switch is like new on that thing. I guess it never sat outside, or someone spent some serious money on it. Either way it looks like a nice score to me...

ok, some of these pictures might look the same but this is my 1st thread and im trying to figure out how to post pictures without getting denied because my "file is too large". Many people are asking me about my Paul Turner pipe so Im including several pictures of it. As soon as I can get it off I will be selling it. Im also adding a picture of my '86 350X and '85 ATC 70. Ok, more later

The carb you have on there isnt the oem 86R carb, its either a 36 or 38mm PJ Keihin which I would have no problem keeping unless you're dead set on going back to original. Maybe someone on here would trade you straight across for a stock one.

I guess if your going back to stock pipe might aswell throw the stock 34mm PJ back on too!

Holy ...... Now they are some nice machines you have there. I personally wouldnt change a thing. I would just go out in the garage and drool near it once in a while. But going stock is cool. Welcome to the site.

Hey edog, the Paul Turner pipe hits hard and from what "3Razors" just told me aparently I have a 36 or 38mm carb. Nonetheless, from the rides up and down the road in front of my house the thing hits powerband and pulls HARD!! I've been riding motocross for the past 15 years with my last 2 bikes being CR500's. I was blown away how these non powervalve 250's hit. It's more like a CR80 in terms of powerband and delivery. You know what I mean, it's like: nothing, nothing, nothing, then WARP DRIVE. Man o man, I pulled into my garage the 1st time I rode it and my eyes were watering cause I didn't have goggles on. Or they could of been tears of joy, lol.
I've been seriously looking at those ESR powervalve cylinders. I would love to know how that goes. Keep in touch
