    winch wiring help

I am an idiot when it comes to wiring.

I have a 2000lb superwinch that came with a massive handheld controller. I want to size things down by installing a simple toggle switch instead. I found a 50amp 3 way switch, but need help to wire it for in, out, and off. Any way to do this using a 3 way switch? I tried searching the web and couldn't find anything.

    thanks

Yes, I just hope you can follow whats in my head!

first, I'll assume 2 things, 1. the winch has 3 wires coming out of it, and 2. your switch has 3 terminals on it. if so try this...

On the winch, 2 wires should be "power" and the third should be ground, take the ground wire and connect it to the frame of the bike. the other 2 should be ran up to where the switch will be mounted.

On the switch, you will have 3 terminals, one of which is common to the other 2 depending on which position the switch is in, connect this terminal to the Battery positive. On the other terminals connect each one to one of the wires you ran from the winch earlier.

If your winch wiring is different take some pics of it and post back and I'll try and explain its setup....
