    125 Trimoto idle problems!

Hello, First off I'm fairly new and love to see people so passionate about anything! I see you all love three wheeling! Just as I love motorcycles!! Anyway, I have a 1981 Yamaha 125 Trimoto that I have gotten to look pretty much perfect! Runs good but is hard starting and I can't get it to idle without adjusting the throttle cable. The idle screw I'm guessing has to be the big screw with the spring? The screw is adjusted by just turning it rather than using a screwdriver. When I move that screw it doesn't do ANYTHING to the idle. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance! Jack

On my tri moto thats the idle screw, it worked great on mine you should also see if your carb is jetted correctley.

Well, first of all you want to make sure your throttle cable isn't too tight and that the carb slide rests at the bottom most portion of it's travel. At this point if the idle screw adjustment doesn't do anything, you will want to try and adjust the air/fuel screw. If the idle screw still doesn't make any difference, then either you have a very dirty carb, or possible the seat are for the idle adjustment or the adjusting screw itself is messed up. You may want to give your carb a thorough cleaning and maybe see about getting a carb rebuild kit for it and see if that helps. You can buy a paint can looking can of carb cleaner which you dunk your carb into after taking it apart, and soak it for 7 or eight hours and see if that helps clean it up any. Don't dunk any rubber parts or gaskets as they will get eaten up. You might find a carb kit on ebay or you may have to order one at your local dealer. Some of the yamaha trikes, you can't seem to get a carb rebuild kit for and in that case yo will have to buy the seperate parts at your local yamaha dealer.
