    Bad Day

I got rear-ended on the way to work this morning. We didn't get hurt but the old Taurus is totaled. Now I have to try to find something else to drive. It really sucks. That Taurus was one of the most dependable cars I've ever owned. It was a chain reaction accident that shut down the highway for 2 hours. This is a picture of me and 1upfront sitting on the back of the car waiting for the police to get their job done . It was a freaking mess.

Is it still driveable? Just take a die grinder and cut off all the damaged metal and put a piece of flat steel in its place. It may look funny but you'll still have the car. When my daughter's Explorer got totaled, she took the money and kept driving it. That was two years ago.

Thanks guys, I plan on driving the car until I settle with the insurance company. The cops actually let me drive it away from the scene with no tail lights and the trunk lid half opened. We were only a couple of miles from work but it was still a little scary. I stopped at autozone and bought a pair of trailer tail lights on the way to work that morning and installed them and bent the trunk lid back enough so that I could strap it closed. It ain't pretty but it is legal.

That sucks guys. I'd settle as well and keep the Taurus if its still driveable. Finding a reliable car is sometimes tough. You should see my work truck. A 94 f150 that was wrecked in the front by a drunk, before i bought it. But, it only had 67,000 on it and ran like a champ. Now it has 84,500 and is one of the best vehicles iv'e ever owned. I actually prefer the care free driving of the Ford more than my new GMC. Don't have to worry about it. Let them pay you for it, and save money in the meantime. By the way, it was cool hangin' with you two at TF. Look forward to doing it again next year. Ed

I bought a totaled 95 f150 4X4 from my friends a couple of years ago. I was lucky enough to find a parts truck the same color. Its a nice truck but it likes gas.

daddio, You could cut the car in half and drive the front around. You would turn heads. lol

Actually if you lived closer I would be interested in the car. I would take the best of mine and that car and have a better work car. My 91 has 257,000+ miles and climbing. I keep driving it because it gets 25+ mpg.

That is exactly why I'm bummed. I bought this car wrecked for $800 and made the necessary repairs to make it safe and look decent. It had 123000 miles when I bought it, it is now at 226000 and I've been getting 27mpg from it. I will see what the insurance wants for a buy back of it. If I can get it cheap enough I will buy it back and drive it like it is until it starts to nickel and dime me, then I'll take it to the scrap yard and get a couple hundred bucks from it.
