Project 1986 Tri Z 98% finished Pt. II (Worth a look!)

Ok...well we are almost done. Everything has gone so smooth I just can't believe it. This was the Tri Z that I bought which was all in boxes. Not one part was mounted on anything!

The only things left that I need are:

    1) countershaft sproket cover
    2) springs for exhast header
    3) final screws in rear fenders
    4) On/Off switch - replacing it because the old one took many a 'roll over'

I still have not tried to start it yet...so I am not out of the woods yet. But here are the pics!

These pics are very clear on my computer but I have too dull them up considerably because the file size becomes too large to post!

Here are some more. Can you tell that I removed the paint from the rear brake caliper? I wanted to do that to the front but it clashed with the black fork legs.

I had to add this last one. I used some gold paint on the rear brake disc as well. The stock 86 Z had this part painted black. Since this will be a dune trike I figured the more flash the better.

Also what do you guys think of the chromed gas tank plate? It is a bit much...but its better than having to repaint or clean that stock black cover.

    Thats all for now!

I don't know about that...maybe just too much time on my hands...

Hey SS...about those decals....I think they cost me about 35 dollars. If you want some I can give you the number to the shop its:

    called The Atlas Sign Store
    6340 N. Freeway
    Houston, Texas 77076
    713-699-1125
    fax 713 699-0002

You need to ask for Darrin he is the one who has the factory images saved on his computer. Let me know if you decide to buy them because I can mail them to you when he gets done. He can also make all different sizes, colors, etc...whatever you want. He also did the 'Yamaha' logo on the airbox cover as cut out letters and the color is whiter than stock. Its high quality heavy duty grade vinyl thats almost impossible to take off.

Let me know...heck if anyone needs some decals for thier 'Z'...just give these guys a call!

    Darius

one last pic....sorry I am still excited about getting this one done. I think this is my favorite because you can see the bike still has that 'showroom shine' look.

I remember when I was kid in the mid 80's I used to beg my mom to take me to the Honda dealer. I never wanted to leave because that showroom shine was so alluring! I would sit on every trike until the sales manager would ask me if I wanted a Coke or something!

Hopefully this picture captures that...but with new plastic and paint what do you expect anyway....a dull bike? Of course it shines!

    Thanks for looking!

    SS,

35 dollars ( I think...thats what I paid) will get you the 2 TRI - Z stickers on the rear fenders and the Z250 stickers by the riders calves.

I dont think they are necessarily better than stock I do think they may have some advanges for some people:

    1) If they are not available from the factory then (well no more explanation needed here)

2)if you have a yellow Z and your fenders are faded just slightly the stickers from the factory will have a bright yellow background. This will be obvious.

    3) You can make as many sizes and colors as you want.

    Drawbacks...

    1) They are more likely to peel off in a crash. These stickers don't have a background so there is less contact overall with the fenders. They are still super durable but each letter is individually cut out.

There could be others...but I cant think of them!

If you want smaller ones for other parts of the bike (for example my front fender and headlight have a 'Tri Z' emblem....the 86 did not have those, you can get those for about $5 a piece.

    good luck!
