    Question Atc 110 backfiring

    Hey guys,
I have a Atc 110 ('83) that when starting backfires. It will pop and run backwards. It yanks your arm really bad also when it backfires (broke a pull rope already.) I'ts got like 0 compression but once running is fine. I popped the CDI cover off and the armature (rectangular thing that spins when running) can be wiggled back and forth like 1/8"
Is the rig ready to be gone-through (new rings valves...ect.) or is it carb settings
I think it has a atc 90 carb or a carb off a 110 dirtbike. Any ideas?

If its backfiring, it sounds like its out of time.

Pull the CDI cover off and check the timing. If it has no compression, you maybe have a valve sticking or bad rings (i see it smoking badly if the rings were bad so i lean towards valves)

Download the book and get er fixed

It has compression but not a lot. It does smoke bad. Let me look it up in my manual...

it's think timming and rebuild of top end with head work such as vavle job, and seals.

Smokeing badly can be a couple of things. Could mean bad rings (which is possible with it having low compression). Smoking badly could also mean bad valve seals. Either way it sounds like it could use a new set of rings and a good look at the valves.
