i picked up a 1986 big red 250 parts bike. I'm just wondering if the rear end and the brake system is a better set up then the 1985. i was thinking of swapping it. if its worth it . or stick with the old set up ?

The 86 is better because it is sealed better than the 85. The 85 brakes are still good. I just take mine apart and cleanthem periodically. Pretty easy.

Like stated above, the 86/87 big reds have a sealed type rear end that keeps or helps keep water from inside the diff. That is the main reason you see those diff's go high on egay. The 85's would allow water to get into the diff and eventually tear it down, if not serviced. The breaks are different too. It has a 2 piece brake system that keeps from the worn out drum problems. If yours is working use it but it is always good to upgrade if necessary.
86-87 Tecate ROCK!
Ride fast...........brake late............and Slide the rear!
thanks guys for the info i will keep using the 1985 one for now. but will up grade in time. I'm always cleaning the brakes out mud and water.just wanted to clear things up about the 1986 ones being better choice.thanks
