1983 Atc70

As some of you may know, i sold my 200X for $300. I took the money and got myself a 1983 ATC70. Its in fairly good shape (all plastics there and in good shape, all stickers and so on are there to some extent).

When i got it, it needed a chain and wasnt running (sat out side for nearly a year) so i pulled the flywheel and cleaned everything, but realized the crank was stripped. A buddy and I tried the rethread it with no success, so i simoly tack-welded the flywheel on and got it running.

I rode it hard for a couple of hours in the mud and as i was putting around the yard in 1st, it just died and wouldnt start.

Turns out the tack welds busted and it sheared the flywheel key.

I do need to find a correct front tire and wheel (wheel borrow tire on it now)

the quality sucks, but ill get better ones.

It has the correct engine as well (4 speed)

if you got it going it would be a decent ride. I rekon a fully suspended 70 would be awesome.

I think you have bigger fish to fry than the front tire! LOL You might seriously just want to go and get a lifan 110 or 125 for it and have a real blast. Not quite a suspension 70, but a blast still the same. And yes, suspension 70s' rock. I had 3 and sold one to a board member and he is quite happy with it. I hear there are new suspension 70s in the works, so be saving your money.

Did u build your suspended 70s or did u buy them off someone else who had built them?

and by saying there are new suspension 70s in the works do u mean there are new suspension kits for atc70s in the works?

I was looking into a lifan engine for this 70, since the crank is stripped and i couldnt get it running at first. After i got it running and learned that the engine works great and its rides nice, i figured ill run the balls off this engine, not caring if it blows up or not, and in the event that it does "go boom" ill spend the money on a kick start lifan engine with a manual clutch. I say a kick start because i dont like the fact that the only way to start some of the lifan engines is electric start (dead battery on the trails) and ill be stranded.

I have also looked into the suspension 70s a fair bit. I located 3 ATC70s at the local junk yard a while back, mainly frames, and thought about buying one and trying my hand at building a suspension "frankenstien" ATC70, using a trail 50/70 front end and tire. As for suspension 70s in the works, i would like to hear some more info about this, i might very well just buy one. PM me with info please!

Right now i am unsure if those 3 or 4 ATC70s are still at the junk yard, as we had a bad flood recently and theyre hauling everything out while its soaked and weighs more. Ill check tomorrow when i go to pick up the new flywheel key for mine engine.

I also found a guy (friend of mine really) who has 6 ATC70s! I never knew. He says 2 of them run and ride, and the 4 others wouldnt take much to get running. He is keeping the 2 that run and wanting to sell the other 4. I told him i would buy all for if the price was right, so fingers crossed. (He also said he has about 10 other people wanting one of these 70s, but he has promised me at least one)

The front tire works very well, although slightly more tippy than a stock 70 tire.

Ive had a blast on this little 70 already, and i honestly forgot how much fun the ones ive had before where.

If i can get a frame from the junk yard, i will start building a suspension 70 for sure!

My suspension 70s were all aftermarket frames. I had 2 A+ frames made from mild steel and 1 PK Racing chromoly frame. They all came with front ends the used either xr70, xr80 or xr100 fork tubes. I sold one of the A+ frames to a person on the website here. I had a souped up atc70 engine in one and a stock 70 in the other. I had purchased a lifan 125 manual clutch kickstart engine and started the pull start conversion. Now the person that bought the A+ frame is modding my A+ frame for disc brakes and welded up the craced frame and a cracked engine mount and boxed in my lower engine mounts. I hope to have it up and running soon with the 125. Maybe I'm going for one of the gpx engines like edog has in his atc90, but I was hoping for a laydown 200x engine, that would be a total blast.
And by saying new atc suspension kits, there are 2 people I know of that are getting frames together for sale. One is a sort of replica of the A+ frame and the other is based on a pitbike frame. There was never any kit that directly converted an atc70 frame, the kit replaced the whole frame, meaning that you did away with the stock 70 frame and just used the engine, wheels and tires and the rear bearing carrier assembly. There was at 1 time, a company that made heavy duty extended axles for the atc70, but they are long gone. I only know of 1 that ever been found.
Your atc70 will be the hit of the neighborhood and tailgate parties too.
If you do a search for suspension 70, you will see several pics of my trikes and blue27s' trike which is pretty much tricked out to look like a miniature "tiger" trike. It really is pretty cool. Very fun too.

I have seen the "tiger" 70 on the board, very nice looking little bike.
