Question Need your opinion! 200x bore options...

My 200x's engine is done (has horrible compression) so I need to rebuild it. Since I already have the engine out I want to get more power out of it (who doesn't?!?)

    So my question for you:

Should I go with Option 1:

    BORE KIT 198cc

    66mm Piston, 10.5:1 Compression.

Designed as an overbore kit for a stock engine, or as a compliment to our stroker crank. When used with our stroker crank, this 218cc kit has excellent horsepower and impressive torque.

INCLUDES: Piston, pin, rings, circlips, head gasket and base gasket

    REQUIRES: Boring, rejetting.

    ~~OR~~

    Option 2:

    BORE KIT 198cc HIGH COMPRESSION

    66mm Piston, 12:1 Compression.

Designed as an overbore kit for a stock engine, or as a compliment to our stroker crank. When used with our stroker crank, this 218cc kit has excellent horsepower and impressive torque.

INCLUDES: Piston, pin, rings, circlips, head gasket and base gasket.

REQUIRES: Boring, rejetting, race gas 108 octane or greater

I WILL be buying one of these at the end of the day or tommorrow morning, so please help me decide!!!

They both say they give 218 hp afterwards so what is the main difference between the two?!? More off the line power?

218hp??? Sign me up!! haha j/k

They are each 218cc, but will have different power outputs from the different compressions. You have to run race gas with the one and not the other. That's a hassle to me so I would go with the first one.

    ***Edit***

I appoligize, my brain is hurting from my school work, I know its not 218 hp, its cc. My mistake. I appoligize.

What would be the benifit of the higher compression versus the lower compression?!?

I don't really want to HAVE to use race gas, but I will if I am gaining something substantial.

if you dont want to run race gas then go 10.5 to 1

the 12 to 1 wont be as reliable...id go 10.5
    80s......185 atc, Yamaha tri-moto 200, 85 200x with tons of work
90s......89 Suzuki quad racer 250 (raced 250 A class for 6 years, late 90s.. custom framed 250x with long travel shocks and a built 350x motor.... built Honda 110
00s...... chomeoly framed 350 RX with all the goodies (thanks to my bro)
    2012.....Replaced the 350x motor for a 444cc YZ426

Race gas is expensive and really isn't something you want for a daily rider.
You'll be happy with the 10.5 and you can still run pump gas on it.

Race gas is about 6 bucks a gallon.Strike 1 for the 12.5 piston.
85 200x's had somewhat weak starter gears. Therefore,a higher compression piston will make the kicker gears have more stress on them.STRIKE 2 for the 12.5 piston.

The 12.5 piston will make it harder on your foot for kicking it over.Strike 3

My suggestion is to run the 10.5 piston. The engine reliability gets worse with higher compression. They tend to run hotter also, and can blowout headgaskets more often.
Here is where my long useless list of stuff nobody cares about should go...

The only way I would go with a 12:1 piston (again) is if I were racing because that is what that setup is designed for. Remember, racing engines don't wear out, they blow up first.

Well, That didn't take long to convince me of the 10:5:1 compression. I need it to be reliable, Bottom line!

    Now my question is:

Is Powroll a good route to take for the bore kit? Are they reliable? Is there somewhere else that is better quality or better benifits that I should look at first?

I built an 86 200X 12:1 and I only went with that because I had a Powroll ported head and it's a machine I'll ride once in awhile. Not a daily driver like my 86 350X....

I too would worry allot about the starter gears on the 85 and older 200X's with a 12:1 compression. You also don't have a decompression cable on the 85 model.

everyone has chimed in correctly as i can see starter gears for sure are weak and can slip with high compression and RACE GAS COST A BUTT TON!!

I'd say option 1 for sure, but race gas exhaust sure smells better than pump gas exhaust.

I'd go with the 10.5:1, you'll be better off in reliability, and if its just a daily rider, not a racer, you dont need a high comp setup. Just more headaches.
