    carb experts 83 110 related

I got my carb on the 83 110 put back together today and buttoned it all up. First pull and it fired right up with the choke. I ran it for a minute or two and then cut the choke off. It idled great for about a minute and then it just died. I had to choke it and give it a little gas to get it started back up and now it's acting wierd. Current symptoms are:

Has to be choked and given gas to start
Idles very high but doesn't choke out with choke when warmed up
    Will not idle without choke
Idle adjustment screw all the way in causes it to rev very high but when backed out the bike just dies

Can some of you carb experts lead me in the right direction as to what might be wrong.

I have the pilot screw out 2 turns and the idle screw out 1 1/4. TIA for any help.

sounds like the idle circuit is cloged or something and is lean...make it stall but run when the choke is on (makeing it richer)

I'll check it again but it was spotless when I put the carb back together. Any other ideas? I really fail when it comes to tuning carbs.

Have you checked the spark plug? If the plug is white, it's lean. If the plug is sooty, which I would be suprised if it is, then too much fuel. But the fuel system sounds lean, and that is bad. Need bigger jets or need to check the carb closely. Did you change the air filter or exhaust? That could have leaned the bike out. Heck, did you clean the airfilter. If the air filter was so dirty that the bike had to be leaned out to run. You might want to change your needle placement. Try lowering the clip on the needle one notch and see if that changes. If you have the clip on the lowest notch already, then you either have a bad carb, or jets to small.

Very good advice. Thank you, that I can understand. I just remembered that the bike has no air filter on it right now. That could be my cause right there. I'll also check the clip on the needle and install an air filter pronto. Thanks for the tips.

Be sure to let us know how it works out. I have this bike as well and I will be starting to work on it soon.

    Thanks.

Will do. I'm hoping the air filter will take care of it.
