    1984 200es electrical problem

I bought a 200ES from a guy for $125 bucks. A friend of mine had it and sold it to some guys that trashed it. They said that they were running it and the battery fell through the battery tray and melted a post off the battery. They said it wouldn't run after that. Some friends of mine picked it up for me and said that all the fuses were taken out of it and there was a connector missing off the ground cable. I haven't seen it since my buddy had it so I don't know what I am dealing with. It was just too good of a price to pass up and I had to get it. The guys that had it said that the CDI unit is what's wrong with it but how they come up with that conclusion I'll never know. Anyone have an idea what could be the problem???

Your gonna have to get yourself a wiring diagram and trace the power, I'd assume that the problem happened when the battery fell and toasted itself....

I've been wrenching for 25years, out of dozens of my personal bikes, ATC's and quads - I've never found one bad CDI. I have found a bad coils and or on/off switches and connections though....

The fuse or fuses should have protected most of it.

I just worked on a 84 200es this week that had weak nonconsistent spark and turned out to be the cdi. years ago i come across another 200es that had a bad cdi. it would start one day then the next time you tried it, no spark.

I hope its not the CDI. That seems to be the most expensive fix for now. Hopefully I can just put another battery in and some fuses in and be done with it, but nothing is that easy.

I went by my buddies house today do inspect what I had got myself into. I lloked around and inspected for a bit and then decided to atleast try and pull start it. So we push it out to the road and he climbs on his 125M and tied the 200 up to it and off we went. After one unsuccessful try, we put it back in the garage and look around. Like an idiot, I didn't open the valve for the gas. So try #2 comes around and with a little choking it started. Ran good and idled good. Found out that it doesn't have any breaks. Had to Fred Flinstone it in my buddies front yard. So now I need to get a Clymer Book and get started on a few things.
