    New to me 85 Tecate

Well I just picked up an 85 Tecate with less than a tank of fuel on a full overhaul. New powdercoat, 3" swing arm, hand made pipe...Anyways, I thought I would log and here and meet some new people and learn some stuff about the new toy!

Thanks for all of the comments guys!

The bike as recently powdercoated and has a full overhaul from front to rear. I was told to take it easy on it for another tank of fuel or so, since it hasnt had a full tank run thru it yet. The pipe is homemade and looks as if ALOT of work went into it. I am going to coat it to prevent it from rusting. Besides what I was told, like an extended swing arm and custom rear shock, stainelss lines and such, I didnt get alot of info on any motor mods. Feels like its going to be pretty fast and hopefully I will get to take her out this weekend.

Did 85's come with front disc brakes? Or is that an add on from an 86? I was checking thru the Dennis Kirk catalog and noticed it listed drums for the front?!

We are going to look at another T3, a complete stocker on Friday for the father-in-law. It looks to even come with a parts bike. Looks like there might be two in the family shortly. He really wants one because back in the 80's, he had a new one that he took to Glamis and Pismo all the time!

Sweet ride...You just don't see'em in that kind of shape too often.

And yes 85 was the first year of the front disk brake.

If you want to keep the original finish of that pipe you can use high-temp clear coat, or if you want it bare spray it with wd40 but it takes lots of upkeep so it doesn't rust.

That's one beautiful Tecate, mang. I can only hope to have one that nice someday. And I second the notion of "the more green machines, the better". Tecates unite!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, we just picked up an 86 Yamaha for my Father-In-Law and headed out to Rasor for a little test drive. Both bikes ran fantastic and were super fast! WE are both very excited.
