In need of your opinion on a TECATE

I know a guy that has a 1984 Tecate that is in "parts bike shape" as I would call it. I really want to get it, but some searching of the boards has shown me that parts are REALLY HARD TO FIND! So what I need you to tell me is this going to be an expensive restoration $100's? I'm not worried about the length of time to get it running but how much it will cost. He wants 200$ for the trike, which I know is a good deal. (sold my go kart and ATC 110 and have 427$ in funds) I dont care if the parts are new or used but it has to look nice. I'll list what I know it needs:
-New levers (hand clutch and front brake)
    -Front brake cable
-Rear brake hose and parts that attach to brake lever
    -intake boot
-kx CDI (it has kx flywheel and stator but do I need a kx CDI?)
    -exhaust silencer
    -grips
    -seat cover
    -new brake pads
    -front tire
    -front fender
    -grab bar
I can sand the rear plastics that are on it because they have no cracks in them. Radaitor is in great shape, not shure about clutch/ bearings. Rear tires/rims look usable. Don't have pics now but may have them tomorrow. So what do you think?

Sounds like most of that is just 'universal' parts or stuff thats easy to come by or can be bought new, with the exception of the intake boot. For 200$ id go for it.

Ok I'll still look into getting it. If the flywheel and stator were on and it was getting spark I'd bet it would run as-is. I'm dabating because I can get a 200x for 400$, havent seen it though... I'll keep you updated...

I have a whole 84 Tecate project like that for sale here in Michigan. It runs but 3rd gear of the 84 KX250 trans is bad, but I have a whole other motor/trans to fix it. So parts are available and probably not as far from you as you think.

    levers are easily obtained.
motion pro still has the front brake cable.
rear brake hose can be found from another brake setup, the parts for the rear brake can be found, probably place an ad in the classifeieds, sure they are around.
intake boot...well condition depending, you can fix a cracked one with some plyer grip, or try and find one for a kx or any year t3 for that matter.
grips, ha, anywheres you find other grips.
brake pads, dealer or bike bandit.
kx cdi will be needed, not interchangeable with a kxt, ebay or classified ad.
seat cover, can find them on ebay stores, verde, etc...
front tire, kenda max or something around the same, geeez i have even seen trail pros used for the front, lol.
front fender is still availible thru maier.
    grab bar thru prm.

for 200 i would grab it, but thats just me and my opinion. i am a t3 nut, so!!!

Ok I searched for some kx swaps and saw a post saying that a kx125 ignition system will work. Here's my new question: With the kx250 flywheel/stator that is on the Tecate will a full kx125 ignition system plug into the 250 and work? I'm asking because the seller has kx125 part bikes...

The 125 parts may bolt on and function, but the timing advance will be wrong for a 250... its asking for disaster iMO.. the ignition system from just about any year Kx250 should work.. what year is your kx flywheel and stator?
