    Please Help

    hello,
im having big trouble trying to figure this out so any help would be great.
i can get a 96 indy ultra sp(580) with a blown motor for cheap. how ever to rebuild the motor im being told and can cost upwards of 1500$(hole in the block). now i can get a 96 indy xlt motor(600) for cheap as well.
what i need to know is will the xlt 600 motor fit in the indy ultra?i know the motors are relativly the same but apparently the mounts are different, but the front of the xlt frames and the ultra are the same.
    pleaseeeeeeee help.
    thank you very much

You will need to either re-drill the engine mounts for the SP, or ... well, that's about the only choice you have, to be honest. I know the old raw-headed XLT's were actually 580's, so they may use the same block as the SP... the purple head XLT's are 600's though.

You can make anything fit in anything with enough time and ingenuity!!

what about the clutch?isent there a seperate clutch wheel thing thats not mounted on the motor, the one that actualy makes the track move, would the 2 still be in line even with the xlt motor in the sp?

You should be able to swap motor mount plates between the too, to make the secondary clutch line up,

I would just try to find a new block, the XLT engine will be quite a downgrade from the Ultra engine, And if you do go with an xlt engine, use a 580, some years 600's are known for not getting enough oil on the bearings and bad things happen...you can run another oil line to the bearing though i believe.

its either this sled which i could have running for rougly 800$ and it is in pretty wicked shape or a 91 500 indy for 600$. but a 600 would really be nice and i love the way they look even tho all the 90's pretty well looked the same

What year is the XLT motor? Personaly I would try to find a cheaper way to get that Ultra fixed, those are good motors, I belive they were more relaible and faster than any of the XLT motors. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

well i picked up the ultra, turns out it threw the rod through the front of the block, melted the piston and did a number on the middle cylinder. new crank is 500$ and blocks are discontinued. and the cylinder isent as easy as boring out seeing how its a 680, they can not be bored, its a chrome finish so it needs to be re-chromed and that is 280$,. also when the piston blew apart it blew a hole in one of the slp pipes
i lucked out and got a used cylinder, block and crank for 600$ so it looks like the old 680 will be staying in her,
or i can get an xcr 800 motor with slp pipes as well for 800$ and throw that in it..
    what do you guys think?
